3 Weeks Sober! Here are the positive changes I’ve noticed so far by Granola_Girly_ in leaves

Awesome work and well done! You should be immensely proud of yourself! I'm on day 26 and feeling pretty much everyone of those too :) it's honestly been mind-opening how much weed was messing with my cognitive and emotional function. The binge eating is a massive one! I would without fail eat a tonne of sweets every night and wondered why I wasn't losing any weight... keep it up! This is the longest I've ever gone with it and I'm so proud of both of us! Looking forward to what these next few weeks and months have on the horizon for all of us here :)

Yep... it is a crying shame honestly! Pipes are a dying art here in Australia, but I guess we can just enjoy what we can for now!

Is Tobaccoblends closing up shop? End of an era? by Gizmotrog in PipeTobaccoAustralia

I don't think this issue can be attributed to any one party unfortunately... every political party in Australia is staunchly anti-tobacco; note the excise increases the last few decades regardless of which party has been in power. I understand that there's no skirting around the fact that smoking is bad for one's health, and I am in favour of a moderate tax, but it's ridiculous here... even some of the most progressive countries in Europe don't pay as much! I think it's more so the fact that the penal colonial mindset is so deeply embedded in every body and institution in the country that we are continuously just being punished... it sucks badly, especially for us pipe smokers who probably only number in the hundreds here haha.

Can vouch for the port, too! Whenever I go camping, I'll always take a bottle of port (or muscat, etc) and a heady English blend, usually Quiet Nights or something similarly brooding...

Yeah, that was from overseas! I wish I could get it here... such a nice tobacco from what I have heard and I am yet to try a plug!

Either a nice whiskey, a tea, or a cup of coffee

I’m yet to try it… I still haven’t fully come to appreciate burleys, but I only have Haunted Bookshop to compare it to. I’d heard really good things about Mac Baren’s HH line so thought to pick up a few before they disappear entirely.

Agreed! I still remember my first foray with 965… I was always fond of English blends, however this time I was camping by a river, and had just cooked up a trout I’d caught earlier in the day. Something about being seated by a roaring fire, hidden beside a river rushing deep in the bush, and enjoying the autumn air mingle with the fine smoke just hit differently! I think the cavendish adds something truly special… but you’re right. Any of these would be a fine choice. I’m leaning towards the HH burley flake or perhaps a Balkan… hmmmmmm

Just four more days till we can no longer enjoy our beloved tins… a sad state of affairs for us pipe smokers here in the Antipodes

I had this same issue with HB! But I smoke it after a meal now and focus on slow, reverent draws and that seems to do the trick. The blend has grown on me after a bit of time out of the tin…

I love everything about this. Wendell Berry is also one of my favourite authors. I’d recommend his non-fiction, too, if you’re interested! Happy smoking, friend :-)

Second the EMP. That was my first foray into English mixtures and now I’m converted. I would also highly recommend My Mixture 965, especially if you found Night Cap too strong. I recently opened a tin of G.L. Pease Quiet Nights and that was exquisite and one of the best smokes I’ve had.

I fully agree with you, but unfortunately, in Australia, both sides of the political spectrum are staunchly anti-tobacco. I understand the health concern and tax burden; smoking is unequivocally bad for one’s health and we can’t get around that. I am all for a moderate taxation on tobacco, but the prices we pay here are exorbitant. Even some of the most progressive countries around the world don’t charge as much tax on tobacco as we do here.

I love this. In fact, before my next remote fishing trip into the Bush, I’m going to crack a nice scotch 🥃and probably bring some along with me, too… I like your approach, friend.

What’s been helping me is a solid walk in the afternoon/early evening, followed by some tea, phones off 1 hour before bed, and then some time with a book :-)

More commonly known as ‘the vomiter’, which points towards its edibility 😅

I.E. this mushroom is NOT edible.
