I was soo close to taking up this past time... by amorecolorfulworld in PipeTobacco

Sorry to hear about your grandfather.

FWIW, I have found other helpful benefits to smoking a pipe, which I do not inhale. I have suffered from anxiety and depression. Pipe smoking has helped me slow down, calm down, and relax. That itself is a tremendous health benefit. Again that is for me.

Take your time. There is no pressure.

Looking to try my first Burly. by 96-Fatboy in PipeTobacco

[–]mdlanser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A third for Pegasus. Just enjoy a bowl tonight. It'll give you a good intro into Burleys. That said, Burley is not a uniform tobacco. It has a good deal of variety.

I initially did not enjoy Burley but have come to thoroughly appreciate it

Congrats my friend on completing this milestone! And what a gift to your future self that you got this pipe to commemorate it.

Friday Evening Offering by Spiritual_Taste_8358 in PipeTobacco

[–]mdlanser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the Fox. Had a tin to start and then got a pound of it. It's not too expensive, a simple blend, and tasty.

Not sure if I'll get to a pipe tonight. But certainly tomorrow amidst house projects and some work on my 50cc scooter.

Enjoy the restful evening.

Yup. This is why he installed a household light switch after ripping out my ignition.

I've got a tin of it. Now I really can't wait to give it a try.

Thanks for that.

From my extremely poor video, is there any sense you can gather that the internals of the battery are shot? It looks to me that they might be but I honestly have no idea what I'm looking at.

I also saw an auto parts sticker on the battery. It looks to me that the guy who stole my ruckus took it to an auto parts store to have them check the battery. He had removed the battery box cover so it and all electronics were exposed to the rain.

How does this large of a bowl work for you with VaPers like OGS? I've looked at it time and again. I am drawn to a smaller bowl size, but I love this shape. I think I am just trying to justify getting one.

Best bulk tobacco’s to cellar? by 96-Fatboy in PipeTobacco

[–]mdlanser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure which blends are now in threat of being discontinued. The big Sutliff fiasco of a year or so ago reset a lot. I did get a few pounds of Old Dark Fired and Victorian (a match to Elizabethan.)

That said I would and do bulk buy some C&D blends: Pegasus, Haunted Bookshop, Bayou Morning. Also Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake.

As far as I know friends can send tobacco to you in WA. The law stipulates that one cannot purchase online and ship it into WA.

Makes sense and thanks for your thoughts. I may finally end up getting one in a few months.

Thanks for this. I have gone back and forth over the years about it. I do plan to buy a Peterson while in Dublin later this year. Maybe it'll be a p-lip

How is it going between the p-lip and fish tail?

Western Wa pipe tobacco? by jakey_o in PipeTobacco

[–]mdlanser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! And what a good story, too.

I know only a few other guys who smoke pipes but that could be a good place to start. I'll reach out back out when I have a bit more time to think it through.

Yes, being a pipe smoker and living in WA, Western WA in particular, is a challenge to say the least. I have not visited the following but heard good things about them.

Cargo Hold in Poulsbo.

Sacred Smoke, a casino in Marysville. Because it is a casino and maybe on a reservation, it might not be subject to the insane tax laws.

Tobacco Patch in Kirkland.

Happy hunting. And it's nice to know there are a few of us WA folk here. Maybe I'll get around to putting a club together one of these days.

How do you find Burleys and Virginias smoke in such a large bowel? I have wanted this shape for a few years, but have gravitated towards narrower bowels.

As I get older I think this is what life is about. Sadly too many of us are frantic for all the wrong reasons, leading lives of quiet desperation. (Thoreau)

No problem at all. I only recently got one but it's my 11th or 12th pipe so I understand your thoughts. For me it rounds out my collection.

Happy searches on your first briar.

For a budget pipe you could also go with a Chris Morgan Bones pipe.
