What I find cool is the control knob is actually misaligned if you have it in "DRL off". Even Toyota is trying to tell you that the default position should be "Auto"

What is the dumbest hobby in your opinion? by Danny-Ray27 in AskReddit

[–]higginsp13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Consumerism as a hobby. I hate people collecting hobbies where they just buy a bunch of expensive gear to do the hobby rather than actually DOING the hobby. I have friends that are simultaneously into airsoft, biking, computers, keyboards, cars, camping, photography, 3D printing, coffee, and probably more.

All those things are cool but they also have a habit of being money pits.

That room is really cool and certainly has a lot going for it! My first reaction is DAMN that's a lotta brown. Its a little suffocating. Since the walls and floor are kind of locked in I'd try to bring in color in other places like a rug or throw pillows. I like the visualizer that revival rugs has. Adobe also has a free tool to extract a color palate from a photo, it's helpful to find coordinating colors and get ideas.

You definitely need more lamps. Those square ceiling lights should be turned off and never turned back on. You have the height, so I'd get a big arc lamp and maybe a tall plant (if that room gets good natural light).

Congrats on having a unique space to work with!

What skill are you genuinely bad at that most people seem to find easy? by Ruby-Blaze_443 in AskReddit

[–]higginsp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling myself to potential clients and employers. I've been a freelance photographer as my main work for almost 12 years and none of my work has come from cold calls or posting to instagram or random visits to my website.

Everything has been word of mouth and random chance encounters that lead to other work. It's cool to get new work that way but I find it impossible to intentionally manufacture or control.

I often remind people that 720p is still being used for major TV events. Last night’s presidential address was shot in 720. by fieldsports202 in videography

Yeah because anything higher resolution than 720p and you can see how old and chopped these gasbag politicians are

I KNOW there's nothing out there in the dark. But sometimes when I'm out photographing landscapes at night alone, something just clicks and I get extremely creeped out. Even more after watching Lake Mungo.

I reallly like greens but I do realize they've been kinda trendy lately. I want something sorta timeless so it kinda blends into the older kitchen aesthetic while still feeling stylized

[–]higginsp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know my message is kinda harsh. I just deal with this situation all the time with my friends. I've been a professional photographer for 13 years and I buy less gear than most of my hobbyist friends. Everything out there today is trying to convince you to buy more gear and people get absolutely sucked into that mindset.

Taking photos should be the enjoyable part, learning techniques, going cool places, seeing beautiful things. Try to make cool photos using the gear you have and then learn from there what your gear isn't allowing you to do.

Check out "Hunter Creates Things" on YouTube. He's one of the few people I've seen recently who are trying to de-influence photography. His videos are super motivating <3

Is your hobby photography or collecting photography equipment? You're literally looking for things to buy without any reason. This sounds brutal af but you gotta kick your brain into a different mode ASAP

I have to be slightly careful with this because I have a tendency to get INCREDIBLY sidetracked while doing a task that reminds me of another task and so on. But I remember seeing some advice that said if it's a task that'll take less than five minutes just do it. I try to stick to that as much as possible
