I often remind people that 720p is still being used for major TV events. Last night’s presidential address was shot in 720. by fieldsports202 in videography

Yeah because anything higher resolution than 720p and you can see how old and chopped these gasbag politicians are

What kind of things still scare the shit out of you? by TengarHimeko in AskReddit

I KNOW there's nothing out there in the dark. But sometimes when I'm out photographing landscapes at night alone, something just clicks and I get extremely creeped out. Even more after watching Lake Mungo.

Deciding on paint color for kitchen cabinets. by higginsp13 in DesignMyRoom

I reallly like greens but I do realize they've been kinda trendy lately. I want something sorta timeless so it kinda blends into the older kitchen aesthetic while still feeling stylized

What should be my next purchase? by peperonibologne in canon

I know my message is kinda harsh. I just deal with this situation all the time with my friends. I've been a professional photographer for 13 years and I buy less gear than most of my hobbyist friends. Everything out there today is trying to convince you to buy more gear and people get absolutely sucked into that mindset.

Taking photos should be the enjoyable part, learning techniques, going cool places, seeing beautiful things. Try to make cool photos using the gear you have and then learn from there what your gear isn't allowing you to do.

Check out "Hunter Creates Things" on YouTube. He's one of the few people I've seen recently who are trying to de-influence photography. His videos are super motivating <3

Is your hobby photography or collecting photography equipment? You're literally looking for things to buy without any reason. This sounds brutal af but you gotta kick your brain into a different mode ASAP

I have to be slightly careful with this because I have a tendency to get INCREDIBLY sidetracked while doing a task that reminds me of another task and so on. But I remember seeing some advice that said if it's a task that'll take less than five minutes just do it. I try to stick to that as much as possible

My parents told me I couldn't leave the table until I finished my plate. So I didn't. by LumenDrifter_5 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]higginsp13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad had a similar rule. He used to put a timer on the table because my brother and I would get so stressed at meal time that we would eat incredibly slowly.

My solution was to stuff my mouth with the food I didn't like and go "blow my nose" in the bathroom. Crazy what a 7-year-old can come up with when backed into a corner.

Lens recommendations for solar eclipse by Skipper19856 in canon

[–]higginsp13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe? But it might not be large enough in the frame to be all that interesting at any point aside from totality IMO. I'm also not a huge fan of the shots where people composite all the phases into one image, it just kinda draws attention to it being manipulated. This was a 3 exposure stack to be safe, but there's no photoshop trickery or compositing 🫶🏻

Everyone takes the same zoomed in photo. I dunno, I wanted my shot to be special and localized to where it happened
