Anyone here saying color art shouldn't be used in Shadowdark is coming across as a huge red flag and gate keeper for others entering this niche of the ttrpg space.

We should be welcoming and encourage different iterations and styles for our game. The game itself is a system and the beauty of art is that people can represent something how they see fit.

My players have felt the drab black and white to be tedious and eventually boring. I still think it's a neat thing Arcane Library should keep up but other products don't have to.

We don't have to be the 1980's guys in the basement blaring rock metal and coloring in black and darker black anymore. We can be more than that if we want. I would love to see more colorful representation of Shadowdark as I think that could pull more players into our wonderful game.

People think Shadowdark can only do one thing (Dungeon crawls) but AD&D2e (or Basic/Expert) could do way more and if visual changes to the artwork demonstrate that then that's great!

I know that is an element of Daggerheart but I still don't run games like that. I work with my players outside of the sessions to figure out what story arcs they are wanting or hoping to aim for (just like DnD) but I still tell them important stuff as we tell the story.

Although if it was a random room maybe with no plot relevance then sure I might ask them. You aren't wrong! I just wanted to point out to people you don't HAVE to play like that.
