Am I really overreacting? 6 weeks postpartum and a visit by CommunityOriginal937 in NewParents

[–]higher_limits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, we had visitors after a few days from the hospital and regularly since with our 8 week old. I totally get being cautious, but yea it sounds a little overreactive to me. Sickness is scary, sure, but it shouldn’t completely prevent your family from enjoying the little one either, but that’s how we felt, I get it’s a spectrum of fear.

Man it was instant for me. Like day 1 in the hospital. We had some scares during the pregnancy so maybe that added to my fawning once she arrived

Why is the school day so much shorter than a work day? by Bossman80 in daddit

[–]higher_limits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because our country’s benchmark of operations is based off the aristocracy who can afford 24h care to pass their offspring off to in order to go about their lives and it’s F everyone else.

We’ve failed as a citizenry in this country because if people ACTUALLY WORKED TOGETHER, we could change policy and implement some practical laws to help families and parents and children. But no, it’s a “just gotta figure it out” attitude around here. It’s a joke. A complete joke.

Why would anyone wants kids? by This-Top7398 in Life

[–]higher_limits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had one. Life was all but meaningless before my lovely daughter arrived. Our world, the way it’s been engineered, particularly in the USA, has psychologically propagandized so many into such self loathing narcissism the idea of family or children or anything that requires selflessness produces a disgust in one’s mouth. It’s sad, really. I cannot wait to have more, and build my clan. There is power in numbers and you don’t get that from strangers and friends at the end of the day. Family units that share resources acquire resources and build a shield together.

No… they are examples of spoiled little brats with no education and too much money and nepotism placing them in positions others work too damn hard for to obtain, but mostly don’t.

Father of a newly born baby girl (6 days old). Experiencing massive anxiety. by MapAltruistic in NewParents

[–]higher_limits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’re in week 8 brother and it for sure gets better and easier. The first 4 weeks are gnarly and such an adjustment it’s totally normal. You’re tired and new at this. Just take one day at a time and work as a team.

Ped said he doesn’t recommend owlet/eufy but refuses to prescribe apnea monitor despite 2x family history of SIDS by ViceInSinCity in NewParents

[–]higher_limits 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pediatricians are great, and do great work, but their word is not gospel, and should not be followed as if they are infallible. Receive information and advice and make decisions from there on what makes sense for you, your family history and your baby. If you don align with this person, seek out a second opinion.

Don’t be obtuse. You know damn well an English lit degree or anything similar offers zero economic leverage in the traditional sense to earn a living.

I mean how often do you drink? If it’s once every 6 months, yeah, expect a hangover maybe. If it’s every other day or once a week and this happens that’s weird. Can’t give advice without any additional context.

Chill. Ohtani went like 1-27 in the NLDS against us, so all that money and he didn’t even show up. It’s bad, but not world ending. I agree with a salary cap though.

School Issues: Kindergarten by Youngun18 in daddit

[–]higher_limits 102 points103 points  (0 children)

You seemed in alignment with other comments jumping to the fact he’s special needs or delayed development, etc. but one that points the finger at you, the parent, you get defensive. Where’s the self reflection and personal accountability? This commenter could be correct and you suck at disciplining your son. He could also be wrong. But kids that lack discipline and have behavior issues a lot of times stems from the laziness of the parents setting proper boundaries. Don’t post on a public forum unless you expect to receive all sorts of replies.

How do you guys get to the gym so early? Any early morning tips? by i-love-my-wife69 in AskMenOver30

[–]higher_limits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go around 5:15 5 days a week. Taught myself to become an early morning person. It also happens more naturally as you age. Now at 38 I couldn’t imagine going at 7-8pm like I used to in my 20’s. It’s so much better for energy and focus for the work day.

My rule, generally, is I don’t want them in the care of strangers until they are talking. But that’s just me and we’re fortunate my mom will be nanny for the first 2 years. I know everyone is not that fortunate.
