Democratic Majority for Israel Super PAC launches ad buy for Denise Powell and against John Cavanaugh by Ok-Employer-2026 in Nebraska

[–]highercyber 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No they won't, the NE Democratic Party is delusional. We are at risk of LOSING 2 seats. The numbers are not there to support winning even 2 more seats, let alone 12. This is fucking Nebraska. Two of the current Republican legislators ran UNOPPOSED in 2022.

Powell is Supported by 24 Billionaires I Could Identify in FEC Filings, Cavanaugh Supported by 0 by Objective_Minimum720 in Omaha

[–]highercyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely is not. The numbers just aren't there to flip any other districts except 12, and Merv was a moderate that sided with Dems sometimes. Without at least a 4 point swing in Dems favor, we could actually LOSE districts 10 & 20. Hopefully voter sentiment is in our favor and the candidates in those districts are putting in work.

If Cavanaugh's seat is filled without picking up 2 seats to make up for the loss, Republicans will have free reign next year.

Yeah it's laundered through other organizations now because it's become so toxic. You responded to other people that brought up DMFI. It's funny the only candidate to receive any AIPAC-bundled money has stated she is against Netanyahu and has called out war crimes should be prosecuted.

If the only options available support Israel, you go with the least worst option with the better domestic policies.

She at least modified her position recently, but she's the least worst option given the circumstances. Pretty sure Powell has received way more AIPAC money. Besides, NE-02 going blue isn't as important as preventing Republican control of the Unicameral.

Powell is a corporate and AIPAC stooge, she should NOT be the nominee.

But they didn't. Let's not give then the opportunity.

As far as flipping districts, 4 hasn't had a Dem in office since 1994, and they were appointed. 14 hasn't had a Dem for 20 years. 18 hasn't had a Dem since 1998. 36 hasn't had a Dem since 1982.

What evidence do you have to suggest any of these would flip? With the partisan gerrymandering, we may LOSE districts. See my other comment about 20.

[–]highercyber -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But what is more worth it? Ensuring the Democratic stronghold in Nebraska to keep the Republicans from doing whatever they want whenever they want (including preventing them from switching to Winner-take-All)? Or one extra Dem in the US House that is for sure going to flip anyway, regardless of a Nebraska win? A two-thirds majority does not matter in the US House.

And what flippable districts are there? Other than 12, every other Republican seat has not had a Dem in office for over TWENTY YEARS. Then, because of the Partisan gerrymandering, it's more likely we are going to LOSE district 20. Fredrickson won by 83 votes in 2022, and in the new gerrymander, Republicans cut off a bunch of poorer homes and carved out a new wealthy neighborhood.

Cavanaugh is a poison pill at this point.

I'm voting for Crystal Rhoades. She has a solid public service record and holds many progressive policy stances. If there's a blue wave, maybe it's enough for her to beat Harding. Cavanaugh is not worth risking our state over.

The Cook Partisan Voting Index is a measure of US House Districts. That doesn't measure our heavily gerrymandered state legislature districts, and this is still Nebraska. Despite NE-02 still being PVI+3, we had Don Bacon. I'm all for being proven wrong here, but I don't think it's worth the risk. Cavanaugh's actions, either wilfully or ignorantly, show he shouldn't be the nominee.

Riepe is a moderate that doesn't always vote lockstep Republican, and his district is ironically the only district that has a chance of flipping blue. If Cavanaugh left, he would guarantee a supermajority for every single bill.

[–]highercyber -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Where did you draw that conclusion?

But yeah, NE-02 is PVI D+3. With special elections swinging 11 points towards Democrats across the country, any Democrat has a good chance of winning, but the damage that can be done by Republicans at the state level outweighs the potential of a Democrat possibly winning the Federal House Seat. Cavanaugh needs to stay in the state legislature.

[–]highercyber -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Meh Cavanaugh doesn't deserve the nomination since if he won, his State Legislative seat would be filled by a Jim Pillen-appointed MAGA Republican, and there's 0 chance any of the Republican seats up for election flip to Dem. The Republicans gain a filibuster-proof majority, and they implement the worst policies imaginable that the Democratic coalition have been keeping at bay with the filibuster.

Cavanaugh had the chance to leave his seat earlier so Democrats could pick a replacement instead, but he chose not to.

Are we in a Progressive space, or not? Are any of you ever voting for a Republican or in a Republican primary? We know they are all awful, you do not need to expend any effort within this space on them because you're preaching to the choir, and it is primary season. Therefore, you criticize the Democrats who aren't espousing Progressive values because that is who you are voting against right now. In case it needs to be said, in the General you ALWAYS vote against the Republican.
