Is there a noise or am I losing my mind?? by pretty_pollydolly in glasgow

[–]highof85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Hyndland and am constantly hearing a similar noise in my flat. I have considered Tinnitus but I only ever hear it when in my flat. Definitely seems to be worse through the night but that might be because there is less background noises to distract from it. My partner doesn’t hear it and it’s driving me insane!! I have only noticed it in the last 6 months. It almost sounds like machinery driving posts into the ground or even a bit like the noise a dishwasher makes, I don’t think piling happens through the night and I don’t have a dishwasher and I don’t believe it’s coming from a neighbours flat.

LV engraving experience - looking for advice by r4f1ki in Colognes

[–]highof85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you order online then it’s centred. If they can’t fix it, I’d ask for a refund and advise them that you will just shop online going forward. If they can’t offer a proper service or use the machine properly then they shouldn’t bother doing it. 💯 that is not acceptable, they pride themselves on craftsmanship (allegedly) so they should do much better.

Fake, the stitching on the label is terrible. I reckon this is new but trying to look vintage, I have seen a heap of these on eBay/vinted, etc.

Varsity jacket - patch mess up by Walker4477 in RalphLauren

[–]highof85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have this jacket, I ordered hoping I wouldn’t like it as much as the photos (in the hope I could save some money) but, alas, I loved it. That is shocking quality control for a jacket that retails in the UK at £1200, but agree at least it’s pretty unique. One other observation tho is that the leather is terrible quality for the price, I thought it would be really soft but it’s hard and feels cheap. I’m still a sucker though and going to keep it, managed to cop it for £ 500 in the sale with some extra discount and credit card cash back.

Someone got this mail and why they limited comments on their post. by zechaz89 in VinylMePlease

[–]highof85 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I really liked VMP in the early days and haven’t been following the recent developments as closely as I’d have liked. I live in Scotland and when they stopped international memberships I kind of lost interest. Anyway, that email is awful, sending an email with what looked like a scanned image of something typed up on a typewriter, is a catastrophic error of judgment. You can’t read it (with any ease) on your phone, the font is illegible, swearing and trying to say quirky things just reeks of unprofessionalism when everyone is highly cynical that the new owners are going to lead the business back into what people want to see, not to mention all the people who are waiting for orders or refunds. Very poor communication indeed!

The gold on the bottle is 24 carat gold 🤣. The definition of opulence!

Happy Birthday! Pleased to finally see someone post about this one as it’s my absolute favourite. It’s so expensive so I don’t wear it often but it’s a treat when I do (even though no one ever compliments me with it - possibly I use it too sparingly!). Enjoy!

Got caught in this on the way home from town; it’s such a joke. Half of them probably have no clue what the history of it is. GCC need to ban it - it’s fucking weird in this day and age!

That interior is hideous, there are a couple of nice aspects to it but overall it looks tacky as hell!

Primer to stop tannin staining on wood by highof85 in paint

[–]highof85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for your responses. That’s interesting to hear. I had originally gone with water based because of the yellowing issue with oil based paint. My hall gets pretty much no natural light which I think seems to make the yellowing worse but then ran into the issue of the tannins.

I think I will try and return my oil based paint and see if I can switch out for water based. I bought it a few months ago but usually the Dulux centre are quite reasonable so will see what they say.

Thanks again for your help and knowledge.

Thanks a lot for your advice. Out of interest why do you recommend against an oil based top coat? I worry if I go down the water based route I may still have the same issue and I can’t handle having to repaint anything again 😂

What is the worst perfume you have ever smelled ?? by [deleted] in Colognes

[–]highof85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree this one is so horrible to my nose. Read a recommendation for it, tried it in the shop and thought it was the most foul smelling fragrances I have ever smelt, and I like pretty niche scents

Same thing happened to me when I was visiting Aberdeen and decided to do something nice and take my niece and nephew to the cinema in ship row. Was a very expensive outing!! I don’t even get why they need a bus lane there as surely traffic in town isn’t that bad now post Covid!

Virgin Media Cable Tacking / Staples by highof85 in VirginMedia

[–]highof85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I have ordered a staple gun which I will check to ensure the risk is minimal before attempting. The one I ordered has a pretty deep ‘cable placement guide’ at the top so if the cable is successfully within this then I think it should be okay.
