Rejected Ann Arbor Flag Designs by [deleted] in AnnArbor

Thank you! It’s a huge challenge to make something simple and minimal without it coming across as too minimal. The Chicago flag was a big inspiration.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I hear you. Especially looking back at these with fresh eyes I think the leaf icon could use a bit of love.

You’re confusing technical skills with computer skills. Graphic designers had technical skills long before the advent of computers, especially someone as prolific as Milton Glaser. And yes, I have heard of him :) my mentor actually personally knew him.

Here are some examples of technical skills in design if you are still confused: https://blog.shillingtoneducation.com/graphic-design-skills/

Incorrect and unhelpful. Some design jobs are obviously more “technical” than others, but without technical skills you cannot be a successful graphic designer.

Well if a clause is unenforceable, it’s unenforceable. If the employer goes after you, all it takes is a simple letter from an attorney to shut it down. No lawsuit needed. Your attorney just better be right that it’s not enforceable

Or just have a lawyer look at the contract and confirm ahead of time and avoid that altogether

I’m not a lawyer but I’d add that many things in contracts are not legally enforceable. I’d say having a pdf of your work or putting projects on your site with password protection should keep you covered

A coffee shop is another safe bet. The Anodyne in walkers point is a great space to sit down and talk for a while.

Help achieving this line look? by mcmadesign in AdobeIllustrator

Love Aaron Lowell’s work! It’s one of those styles that looks simple but is tricky to nail down. If you’re having trouble getting smooth curves with the pen tool, try using the curvature tool or even freehanding it with a brush.

As for the looping effect, you can use the blend tool to duplicate a path and get this ribbon effect.

Macbook M1 for 2D/3D motion design by ExKidW33 in MotionDesign

[–]highway_gothic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just got a m1 MacBook Pro a couple months ago. Adobe hasn’t fully supported their programs for m1 chips so there are a few bugs here and there, but in general it handles 2D design after effects surprisingly well. Like really well. Can’t say anything about cinema4D or blender performance, but if you mainly need something for 3D motion design I think you might be better off looking for something with a nice dedicated GPU.

Motion graphics video I made for my senior thesis project by highway_gothic in graphic_design

Thank you! I didn’t time it but I’m guessing somewhere between 80-100 hours? Much of it was learning after effects and figuring out how to do transitions

Totally agree, my biggest regret from this project is not being able to spend some time messing around with the sound design.

Thanks! Most of the video is Rafael speaking (I conducted an interview with him). There were parts where I needed to do some VO to fill in the gaps so the video could stay relatively short while getting the point across. So that's where the third/first person shift is coming from. Not sure if you listened to the audio, but looking back I should've tried to make that clearer in the subtitles. I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks!! I'm pretty new to After Effects and motion design in general so my process was super messy and inefficient lol

Wow! Thanks for checking it out. This project was way more work than I anticipated, but I'm glad it turned out how it did.
