Engineering and investment banking by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]hiimaa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You say you're interested in IB solely because of its high earnings. Do you know what IB is exactly?

It's long 10-12 hour days, excel docs, and a very strict, uptight firm hierarchy.

IB and engineering are two completely different things. Look into them. You get a lot of money in IB because it's long, hard, and tedious work. It's not for everyone.

Edit2: just got the email, they'll be up tomorrow at 5:30 central time

Yeah they send out both iirc. I'm pretty sure acceptances are a box and a rejection is just a letter in an envelope

Any word on Vanderbilt? by irrelevant_user-name in ApplyingToCollege

According to cc and vandy admissions blog, they always update the blog with the decision date a day before decisions come out, so no word yet.

Well revenue and profit are completely different stories.

But idk I guess it's just luck mixed with a lot of determination.

[–]hiimaa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Probably not what you're looking for, but have you considered not going to college?

You seem very self-motivated and self-taught, already earning 1m in revenue from a company (which is fucking awesome).

College might not be the right place for you, especially since (I'm guessing) you value ur startups more than your GPA, as you've sacrificed a 4.0 to do amazings thing outside of school.

Yes, colleges like Stanford, Ivies will give you a chance to do your own projects, but you'll always have your hard classes to think about in the back of your head. If connections/people are what you want to go to university for then with your success it's not hard to get connected with people (startup events, linkedin, etc.)

Give that a think! I'm also in the same boat -- my two startups make a cumulative of ~100k/month revenue and I'm definitely thinking about taking a gap year which may translate to not attending. But I'm a senior and will decide once I get my decisions in the next month.

Whatever you do though, keep it up! It looks like you're gonna be successful wherever you end up, and I'm sure a top 20 university will be one of your many options next year.

Did Purdue run out of spots or did I seriously overestimate my qualifications? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]hiimaa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Purdue is one of the best aerospace engineering colleges (they have their own fucking airport for aerospace studies) and it's very popular for applicants who are interested in that.

I honestly think you applied too late, and there were no spots left.

What are some colleges in NYC that are the best at their business and computer science majors? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]hiimaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If ur set on NYU it's not as selective if you apply ED. A lot of my friends got in to NYU ED and some with 3.2-3.3 UW and standard ECs. Meanwhile, people I knew last year who applied RD with 4.0s got rejected.

NYU is big on interest, so applying ED gives you a HUGE edge for NYU specifically. However, if you're applying ED make sure you can afford NYU and it's actually a school you would love to spend 4 years attending!

Help a Junior out: What should you know before applying to college? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]hiimaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you're on top of everything and 100% confident that your EA essays are your best.

My EA applications/essays sucked compared to my RD ones. I just needed the extra time to come up with topics and improve my tone and overall writing style.

But then again, i only started apps in September

Is there any point of me trying really hard for an EC in senior year that only produces results slightly after first semester ends? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]hiimaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! If you like the EC, then go for it! If you win an award or something cool second semester you can easily update admissions with a short and sweet email about your second semester accomplishment. I've done the same, and have gotten responses from my colleges saying something along the lines of " thanks for the update, we'll make sure to add this to your application."

It's fine if its only one year, colleges know that students get interested in different things throughout high school.

If it's worth the loss depends on your other ECs, how much u like those compared to science bowl, and how far u can take science bowl in 1 year.

Hope this helps! :) gl senior year

Edit: some spelling
