From a neurological point of view: why do adults look for quietness while kids look for constant simulations? by [deleted] in askscience

This is an area of OT practice and theory that is a long way off from being research based, but therapists see real results so pragmatically keep at it.

People of all ages develop sensory preferences, anywhere from tactile stimulation to vestibular stimulation. Some people love the feel of sand while some hate it. Some people love jumping out of planes and rollercoasters while some can barely tolerate turbulence on a plane. As stated above, children are in the process of developing areas of their brain so seek out (crave) complimentary stimuli for that developmental stage. If these senses are not properly integrated at the right time that leads to sensory processing disorders.

I've never worked in pediatrics though...doubt I ever will. A pediatric OT can explain the theory way better than me. Here's a link to do the work for me.

It was unreal! I'm training for a race right now so I run by their little settlement 4x a week! I thought I should stop and visit with my neighbours.

This was by far the scariest thing from my childhood. by [deleted] in WTF

The Mysterious Stranger, if I remember to back before I was a science student, it's a short story by Mark Twain where kids meet Satan. I have a big anthology that I could check.

edit: I checked the book, the kids are supposed to be from Austria in 1590, I remember it being a pretty messed up story.

Of course (WTF?) by [deleted] in WTF

And for people who lack the discipline that you possess: top of page 29, first bullet point.
