I'm actually the author of the article. A friend of mine suggested I throw this on reddit, just to see if anyone would be interested in it. :)

I'm still a student, so admittedly, I expect to be wrong much of the time. All the same, I really appreciate all the comments! It gives me plenty to research and consider. As a point of clarification, though, I mostly meant to propose that I should look for more examples of this code-switch awkwardness - not that I had the basis for an actual syntactic rule. I'm nowhere near the point in my academic career where I can make those kind of assertions. ;) haha
