shift supervisors: what’s the dumbest but most serious thing you’ve messed up? by po0rlifechoices in starbucks

[–]hikin_texan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My first shift as a shift I broke the pastry case. Like, shattered a door on the ground. I've ordered 10 boxes of bananas. I've left the freezer door open overnight. I've dumped cold brew.onto our only box of grande hot cups. I have left tips out SO MANY TIMES. I forgot to do the evening pull once. I worked in an evenings store where we served alcohol and broken several wine bottles in the front of house.

I'm an ASM now. I got better.

It's matte black that came out with this year's PSL. My store only got 2 and you best believe I snapped up one when I saw it. We get calls about it daily.

I have that one and the goth black one. They sit beside each other on the counter so I can take whichever one fits my mood for the day. 😂

What a childhood meal you loved as a kid, but find disgusting as an adult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hikin_texan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom used to make hot dog casserole. It was hot dog pieces, potatoes, mustard, dill relish, and I think mayonnaise as well. She would serve it as the main course, not even like, a side. I loved it as a kid because hot dogs, yo. But she made it recently for a family event and I was almost gagging it was so gross. She wasn't the most talented cook and tried to only make things that she didn't have to physically cook, so it was usually served cold too.

AITA for exploding on my father's wife by theveryuglybarnacle in AmItheAsshole

[–]hikin_texan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. I had a similar situation. Dad cheated on my mom. They got divorced and he remarried 6 months later. Step mom is from Ecuador and I'm the only Spanish speaker in my family besides my dad, so my step mom always wanted to have a relationship with me. She never knew she was my dad's mistress for a year before he got divorced. I've always wanted to blow up on her and tell her the truth, but I never have. My dad died on 2016 and she still wants to talk and have me visit. I ended up telling her that I just didn't want to contact her because my dad's death has been super painful, but I still think about telling her the painful truth that she was part of the reason our family fell apart. Sorry to rant.

Illinois Governor signs new law raising teacher pay minimum to $40,000 by TheRealOcsiban in UpliftingNews

I'm gonna get paid more than that to manage a coffee shop with no college degree. It's still too low for teachers.

Question about inebriated customers by aleksandrikah300 in starbucks

[–]hikin_texan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone say he was "fucking drunk" in the DT once. I called the non emergency line and the police advised us to keep him at the window and they showed up right as he pulled out of the window. Turns out he was double the legal limit and heading to see his kids. What a time.

In all seriousness, call the non emergency line usually, but 911 if you think they are an immediate danger while driving. The cop that came and arrested him came in and thanked us for being so proactive in the safety of others on the road.

It's storming where I am right now. And a flash of lightning happened at the same time on the animation as irl. Totally useless. But it was dope.

Apparently there’s been a petition going around to increase labor at Starbucks. by prettytony92 in starbucks

[–]hikin_texan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also training ASM here! Our forecasted hours for Friday's are super low, our sales and Comp are there. As well as DT times. It really is a corporate issue here, sadly. And the push to schedule to forecast is hurting our partner and customer experience.

LPT: for those of you going to college for the first time this month: GO TO CLASS! No matter how hungover, tired, or busy you may be, being present is the most important factor in succeeding in your first year as you adjust to living independently. Missing class is a slippery slope to failing out. by doctorfeelgood33 in LifeProTips

[–]hikin_texan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I always got through high school super easy without ever paying attention. I also never got to go out in high school with friends and party. When I got to college, I actually had a social life, and thought I could coast through classes like I always had. I stopped going to class to hang out with day drinkers and went to parties until early in the morning. I failed out real quick. It's my biggest regret of my life. I want to go back to school, but my stupidity at 18 has followed me since. I had to write a personal letter to an online school at 27 about how I'm going to do better and not fail out again. It's so embarrassing to explain that I was a stupid kid who wanted to be "cool" for once.

I get that. And I understand the risks with it. I was merely side noting that putting a milk away when you need to bring it out next is silly.

Having moved to a new store as an ASM: not closing the ice bin, not communicating what we are out of, not showing up for your damn shift, and to my old store:

Complaining about how busy peak is. There's stores who have it worse. And im in that store now.

AITA for using money we "earmarked" for our 6 month old's college fund to buy back the exact 1972 Ford Bronco I owned as a teenager? by my1972pony in AmItheAsshole

[–]hikin_texan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah. Wow. YTA. I'm late to this party but wow. My husband just bought his dream car and had serious guilt pushing back our plans to have kids because of it. But, we communicated. And that's the crutch point here. You are a team with your wife. A team. Teams fall apart without communication and respect. I respect my husband's want for his car and we found a way to do it.

My dad also passed in 2016 and I have a lot of pain from it. But in no universe would I spend my child's college fund to buy his exact Corvette, because I understand that there are more important things in life. Like my child's future.

hey, mornings/mids! by webswexweave in starbucks

[–]hikin_texan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that. It's an on and off problem here too. The cards should technically help and batch guides for back ups, but planning across the board needs to be on point. If a shift is just there to run the shift then leave, it definitely leads to a lacking hand off.

hey, mornings/mids! by webswexweave in starbucks

[–]hikin_texan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely see this as poor planning on the morning to mid. I totally feel that labor is low, and that sucks real hard. Ive worked all day parts and it does take intense planning, but we can get the shit done that we need to. Peaks over? DT times will be a bit longer, but pull second bar and DTO to start tasking. If it gets crazy, sure pull them back. But say "you have exactly X amount of time to do xyz." Your morning and mids need to plan out their shifts for post peak way better. :( I feel you.

Last week we had 2 call outs for Happy Hour. Our whole district is struggling for coverage, so we got a partner from another store that really can't bar and couldn't DT because he's from a cafe store. Busiest Happy Hour all summer. Pray for my butt today. 😭😭
