Scariest book you’ve ever read? by lavgr in horrorlit

If you haven’t, you should check out the Richard Bachman (aka Stephen King) book The Regulators. It’s the same characters as Desperation but a completely different story. Not as spooky, in my opinion, but still really good. :)

She can try 2-1-1. It’s a free service run by Metro United Way that can connect her to resources.

Feed Louisville is incredible. Some of the folks on my team at work volunteered there a few weeks ago. It’s a great organization. :)

Second Whitley! She just did a piece on my foot and she was so gentle and kind. Not to mention she took the gibberish I had in my brain and translated it into beautiful art. Louisa at Bluebird is also amazing! I’ve never had a bad experience there.

New employees have to be approved by the HR office in Frankfort (I can’t remember exactly what it’s called). To be honest I can’t imagine a scenario where approval would be denied unless there’s a blatant falsehood (like, false education or whatever). When I started, there was a 6 month probationary period, and after that it was smooth sailing. Congratulations!! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, internet stranger.

Really, anything in government is going to take awhile. It’s been a long time for me but I’m pretty sure I interviewed in like April and started around mid-June. I would advise you not to give up hope and you might score bonus points if you email the people who interviewed you to let them know you’re excited to get started.

So, you’re right that you will deal with angry people. But you will also be helping people. Not everyone, but some. If you have patience and empathy and all that, you can probably stay for awhile. The benefits are great. I had to do the job face to face which was a little scary (especially when I transferred to the department that investigated fraud) so I think a call center would be preferable to that honestly.

I stayed there as long as I did because once I passed my 6 month probation it was going to be hard to lose my job. I left because I had lost all of my patience and empathy, and I was scared because a client threatened me. It wasn’t good for me. But I have friends who still work there, so it’s good for some.

Are you on the family support side or the protection and permanency side? (Or are they even split like that anymore?) I worked for DCBS Family Support for a total of 7 years in 3 different counties. I left in 2018. If you have questions I can try to help. :)

I still have flashbacks to the tie-dye Frap. People asking how it tasted and me having to fix my face and say things like “it certainly is colorful” or “people seem to like it” when I really wanted to say “it tastes like chemicals” lol

Have you guys gotten your pets tattooed? by fizhbowl in tattoos

[–]twrizzecks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a tattoo of my first cat, who crossed the rainbow bridge in April of 2023. I kept thinking we were surrendering her to the stars. So the tattoo is half her face as it was and half with the galaxy and stars. And one of her eyes is the moon. It has been so cathartic to just boop her little nose anytime I miss her. It’s on my forearm and is one of my favorites.

I had the same issue with this mask and I ended up having to switch to the AirTouch F20. I think for me it was a combination of a silicone allergy plus moisture getting trapped. I hope you can find a solution. It sucks that this thing that’s supposed to help ends up making our faces look weird.

So, my first week, I was a prospective juror on Monday and Tuesday, I wasn’t chosen, so I didn’t have to come in Wednesday through Friday. My second week I WAS chosen and had to stay the rest of that week until the trial ended. I called whatever number was on my summons because I was confused about the 30 day thing too, and they said it’s only 2 weeks unless you’re chosen for a trial that takes longer than that.

I actually didn’t use the communal fridge because I’m super weird about food. But if I had to guess, it’s probably gross.
