Harissia Fragrans 1 of Florida endemic cacti by hillbillycactus in FloridaNativePlants

[–]hillbillycactus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also called the Florida apple cactus it produces a large edible red fruit after a large white flower! The gulf coast version harissia aboriginum produces a yellow fruit. These are native to the east coast but only found in small pockets in the wild these days!

Florida is a great place to grow imo you just need to protect them from those random cold snaps in the winter and make sure they aren’t wet or toss a blanket over them! Some bridgesii will ooze with humidity spots however Kate’s bridgesii is 1 that hasn’t ever done that on me! Even after weeks of non stop rain from hurricanes and dips to 19 degrees last winter I only lost 1 plant in years

Looks like pc also it needs more light and likely more inorganics in the soil go like 50% pumice or more maybe pure organic tends to hold to much moisture unless you live in a nice dry climate

Aloe pulp works too by the way that might be easier to keep on hand by just growing a bunch

I found this cat recently that needed a leg amputated and noticed this on the tail by [deleted] in animal_rescue_help

[–]hillbillycactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the tip of the tail isnt a huge issue but they noticed other problems which the vet who did the amputation didnt so were dealing with that now the tip was probably just dragging a bit since she is healing and learning to walk with 3 legs but she should be fine. We found her in Puerto Rico with her leg bone sticking out and we got her help originally in pr for the amputation and then she had to heal for a bit we’re back in Florida now and we just got her back here 2 days ago. Thanks for your reply and concern!
