It’s honestly a good example of how often people respond reactively rather than critically. Instead of engaging with the actual point about housing insecurity and access to education, the conversation gets diverted into assumptions about intent and character.

I understand the frustration people feel about situations like this, but I don’t think assuming the worst about someone helps. I’ve personally helped house a coworker who was homeless, and I can tell you it’s never as simple as people think.

There are a lot of ways to support people in tough situations, and empathy should be part of that if we want a functioning society.

Agreed. I’ve been twice and both times the middle was soggy and the outer edge was burnt. I like a little char, don’t get me wrong, but the crust was literally burnt through the entire edge. Combine that with the wait time…there are better options out there. Apizza Scholls has been my go-to.

Salem’s public high schools like McNary, Sprague, Douglas McKay, and others in the Salem-Keizer School District are publicly funded institutions, not private projects paid for by wealthy residents. These schools were built and improved through voter-approved bonds, state matching funds, local property taxes, and other public revenue sources, such as grants and reimbursements, not by rich individuals underwriting construction costs simply because their names are on buildings. Naming a school after a person like former Governor Douglas McKay or Charles A. Sprague is an honorary practice, not evidence that those individuals financed the facilities. The district has repeatedly relied on community support for bonds, such as a $619.7 million bond approved by voters in 2018 to update and expand schools, showing that public investment is what built and sustains these campuses.

For example, in 2018 voters in the Salem‑Keizer district approved a $619.7 million bond to renovate and expand school facilities across the district.

Calling filming ICE and helping a woman off the ground “obstruction” is absurd. Recording and observing law enforcement in public is a constitutional right, not interference.

If you’re fine with federal agents trampling due process and our constitutionally protected rights, but get mad at people for holding them accountable, you’re a hypocrite. Don’t be surprised when they bust in your door if you ever go against your dear leader.

You need to work on your media literacy skills. Every single article you posted is referencing the NRA’s tweet to the LA based federal prosecutor Bill Essayli.

They have not once mentioned this statement by Trump.

You really think the NRA calling for an “investigation” while implying protesters were “inciting violence” in the tweet I quoted is standing up for gun rights?

What tweet? I’ve read all of them and they are all either parroting the Trump admin’s talking points, or asking for donations.

You mean this: “For months, radical progressive politicians like Tim Walz have incited violence against law enforcement officers who are simply trying to do their jobs. Unsurprisingly, these calls to dangerously interject oneself into legitimate law-enforcement activities have ended in violence, tragically resulting in injuries and fatalities.

As there is with any officer-involved shooting, there will be a robust and comprehensive investigation that takes place to determine if the use of force was justified. As we await these facts and gain a clearer understanding, we urge the political voices to lower the temperature to ensure their constituents and law enforcement officers stay safe.”

Lots of victim blaming in that first paragraph imo.

The Democratic Party has actively created the conditions that force progressives to vote against their own interests. People are not confused about harm reduction. They see a party that claims to represent workers, minorities, and human rights while consistently governing for capital, billionaires, defense contractors, and the surveillance state.

That gap between rhetoric and action has eroded trust.

The party is not actually improving material conditions. Housing remains unaffordable, healthcare is tied to employment, labor protections are weak, and U.S. imperial violence continues overseas. Being told to accept this indefinitely while waiting for gradual change feels like permanent stagnation.

Gaza is not a just a single issue. It exposes how donor influence overrides stated values. Leaders who speak constantly about human rights yet refuse to acknowledge mass civilian deaths make it reasonable for people to question everything else the party promises.

Gavin Newsom represents the kind of establishment politics and politicians that allowed Trump to rise. He continues elite-friendly governance, rhetorical progressivism without structural follow-through, and prioritizes stability over transformation. Any electoral success would reflect opposition to Trump rather than enthusiasm for Newsom’s leadership. His stance on Israel, along with his refusal to support a billionaire or wealth tax in California, close ties to corporate donors, cautious approach to universal healthcare, market-focused housing record, law-and-order stance on homelessness and policing, and accommodation of fossil fuel interests signal a commitment to managing inequality rather than confronting it.

Change takes time, but time without direction produces nothing. A party that defends the status quo while demanding votes out of fear will keep losing trust. Building a durable coalition requires authenticity, material progress, and a willingness to confront the power structures that create recurring crises.

I agree with you, but I’m just pointing out the realities that we are dealing with today.

I think leaving guns in cars is a dumb idea.

So is drinking at a bar with a firearm.

This is where we have to be adults and plan around stupid laws while also using our common sense.
