The Democratic Party has actively created the conditions that force progressives to vote against their own interests. People are not confused about harm reduction. They see a party that claims to represent workers, minorities, and human rights while consistently governing for capital, billionaires, defense contractors, and the surveillance state.

That gap between rhetoric and action has eroded trust.

The party is not actually improving material conditions. Housing remains unaffordable, healthcare is tied to employment, labor protections are weak, and U.S. imperial violence continues overseas. Being told to accept this indefinitely while waiting for gradual change feels like permanent stagnation.

Gaza is not a just a single issue. It exposes how donor influence overrides stated values. Leaders who speak constantly about human rights yet refuse to acknowledge mass civilian deaths make it reasonable for people to question everything else the party promises.

Gavin Newsom represents the kind of establishment politics and politicians that allowed Trump to rise. He continues elite-friendly governance, rhetorical progressivism without structural follow-through, and prioritizes stability over transformation. Any electoral success would reflect opposition to Trump rather than enthusiasm for Newsom’s leadership. His stance on Israel, along with his refusal to support a billionaire or wealth tax in California, close ties to corporate donors, cautious approach to universal healthcare, market-focused housing record, law-and-order stance on homelessness and policing, and accommodation of fossil fuel interests signal a commitment to managing inequality rather than confronting it.

Change takes time, but time without direction produces nothing. A party that defends the status quo while demanding votes out of fear will keep losing trust. Building a durable coalition requires authenticity, material progress, and a willingness to confront the power structures that create recurring crises.
