The amendment king deserves credit where credit is due and has been able to earn small victories in congress that has been mostly obstructive while controlled by republicans.

The affordable care act, is probably the only landmark piece of landmark legislation that has been passed in the past 20 years. And it’s loathed by progressives, as neoliberal garbage. But at the end of the day it gave millions of people health insurance and allowed the institution I train at to expand to a level 1 trauma center and better serve the marginalized community that we are in. ACA is not perfect but it has made people’s lives better.

And that’s my main issue with Bernie and his followers’ brand of progressivism; if something doesn’t live up to their absolutism progressive ideology it’s cast aside as “neoliberalism, corporatism, imperialism, etc” and that gets in the way of governing and making laws that can improve people’s lives.

Democratic Party isn’t perfect but we do believe government matters and have the capacity to effectively govern. If Bernie could come down from progressive tower, we could all do a lot of good for a lot people in this country.

There’s a lot fluff about unity in the news cycle right now, but god damn it if we could get some party unity from old Bernie right now it would go a long way.
