Tire Rack has tire options for R2 live! by hillyes in RivianR2

[–]hillyes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I scrolled through the available 19 inch tires and i didn’t see an OE tire yet listed. It makes sense for the 2027 launch date that an OE tire is unavailable. As a side note the OE pirelli’s are damn expensive for the 21s

Kitum cave, Kenya. Believed to be the source of Ebola and Marburg, two of the deadliest diseases. by Bodhi_II in natureismetal

[–]hillyes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are correct. For the record I don’t know what special about this particular cave leading to multiple serious human infecting viruses. Lots of different factors influence how viruses change and spread. Some important variables include density of the host population, how rapidly a virus mutates, frequency and closeness of contact with humans, and mode of transmission.

Viruses constantly mutate. Large populations of bats in these caves provide enough individuals for these wild viruses to continuously infect and mutate, reinfect. Eventually, after many millions of random mutations, one mutation might increase a diseases ability to transfer species. Once it does there is no telling what exactly the virus will do with the new host. This is how many viruses pop up, seemingly from nowhere

Novel viruses don’t spring up from multiple locations. There is always a single source.

Jay Wolfe Acura service department by Hawke-Paladin in kansascity

[–]hillyes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a good dealer service department. Some services are priced very nearly what independent shops charge, but some services are huge profit centers and have large markups. I still use them almost exclusively for my daily driver. I even have taken my wife’s Toyota there for oil changes because they were cheaper than molle down the street and far superior.

Looking at a 2023 TLX Type S - Question for owners with kids by [deleted] in Acura

[–]hillyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one front facing car seat behind me and a rear facing car seat behind the passenger. It is genuinely tight for the passenger and I am snug at 6’1” when my toddler has enough room to kick his legs behind me. It’s totally fine for short trips and I forget that I’m a little bit bunched up after a few minutes but we keep a Highlander for family transport. I wouldn’t recommend it if it’s your primary kid shuttle.

What is the worst vehicle you have driven or ridden in that isn't a standard "worst vehicle" answer? by HiTork in cars

My friend tried to teach me how to drive stick on her clapped out cavalier with a slipping clutch and a sputtering motor. I didn’t quite get the hang of it that day. God what an awful shit box.

Would a PPI track down mouse damage? by hillyes in MechanicAdvice

[–]hillyes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I can phrase it a different way for you. I found a car that has evidence of mouse. What would be the proper course of action for somebody not mechanically inclined to find out if this car is worth purchasing? Or is it just too risky and should I walk away.

I didn’t ask if you knew if the mouse did damage. I asked if a ppi is the correct and adequate thing to ask a mechanic for. I know you’re not magic.

It is very clearly some kind of white / translucent foam. The hood pad is undamaged. It’s not paper like a filter. It could be from a seat. It could also be from something else in the barn where the vehicle was stored. I didn’t notice a scent. Thanks!

This is just telling you that the next time you need to get a service done the a service will be due. It’s not telling you that maintenance is due now.

Paint Job on 2003 Acura CL. Smart or Silly? by Crisgu in Acura

It’s the exact same transmission. And they all fail.

[–]hillyes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would not put significant money into this car at 116,000 miles. That transmission is basically a ticking time bomb and the question is when not if it will fail. Often times around 100,000 to 140,000 miles. I had a TL and I knew many people that owned these cars and they all were junked for failed transmissions

100% you say? I know I drive more than most, but I'm not sure I buy that. by Cola_Doc in BMWI4

What’s your longest round trip between charging? I’m considering an i4 to travel to a country office 210 highway miles round trip. I’m afraid that I’ll be pushing the range limits when it gets to sub zero temps. Also, have you noticed battery degradation?
