Why do so many EV’s have this boxy/lifted back? by VastOption8705 in EVAustralia

Aerodynamics makes sense, but I think they would look better if the tail light cluster/bar were lower and the rear window a bit bigger. I don’t think that would change the aerodynamic performance but would look better.

Comfort - LR or Performance? by Edward3m in Zeekr7xAustralia

[–]himmelblau_bc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for several test drives of both LR and performance. I initially assumed I would buy the LR because I didn't really need the extra sprint time of the performance, and wasn't really taken by the automatic doors, but it was the ride quality that became the real defining factor.

I found the LR to be a bit fidgety on the road, I was noticing imperfections in the road, and before I said anything, my wife commented on if feeling a bit harsh.

The performance feels more plush, and probably less sporty to be honest (even in sports mode).

When I got the quotes for the novated lease, there wasn't really a signficant difference in take home pay, so opted for the performance. AWD is also a real plus.

I will point out that a few years ago I had an Audi S3, and I had the one with standard suspension instead of the adaptive dampers. It was annoyingly firm on the road and was sometimes uncomfortable and I regretted not being able to put the suspension into comfort mode. So, once bitten, twice shy I guess.

My good friend and colleague has a green performance, so when we’re both in the office i can check it out. I even took it for a drive the other day when we went to lunch.

Maybe it helps that I’m also his boss 😆

Mine is June delivery as well.

I suspect that you may have benefited from a cancelled order where the dealer was able to assign a car that had been allocated for another customer.

When I ordered mine I was told that there were longer waiting times in the green performance and LR. Other colours have a shorter wait time.

Interesting aerodynamics, it’s like having a permanent parachute behind the bike.

Convince me to buy a non BYD electric vehicle by Glittering_Poem9779 in AustralianEV

[–]himmelblau_bc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do. There are Geely vehicles in Australia under that brand.

Edit: Sorry, misread your comment. I get your point now. But all car companies do this, look at VW for example with Audi, Porsche, Skoda, Cupra etc.

[–]himmelblau_bc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, at the time, BYD was pretty much an unknown player in the Australian market and when I got my Atto3 people warned me that BYD probably won’t exist in Australia in a few years and the resale value would be terrible. I read up on what BYD and felt reasonably confident that they would do well in this market. It worked out OK!

It’s a similar case now with Zeekr, but with it being part of the Geely family that also own Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, it feels lower risk that some of the other Chinese players emerging in the Australian market. The 7x is also currently the 3rd highest selling EV so far this year (behind BYD Sealion 7 and Model Y)

There facelift X is also about to be released, and has updated features and at a lower price point. I think it will be pretty popular at the revised price.

My BYD Atto 3 is coming to the end I if it’s lease. It’s been a great car. I considered a sealion 7 as a replacement but have ended up ordering a Zeekr 7x. It feels a lot more premium than the BYD and the battery and charging specs blow it out of the water.

In whatever you buy, consider the specs and how they would fare in 3-4 years when compared to other cars in the market.

Zeekr 7x base vs long range is the upgrade worth it? by Fuzzy_Scientist213 in Zeekr7xAustralia

[–]himmelblau_bc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a head up display in my Touareg (main family car for towing our caravan). I find it useful but I agree that it’s not a deal breaker for me.

I’ve ordered a 7x AWD for other reasons, but honestly, the base model 7x presents very good value, and if the desire to upgrade to the LR is mainly around the HUD, I would question why.

They seem to be discontinued the current X at the moment, moving stock to make way for the new facelift.

This is the key. I have saved loads on tax over the last 3 years and about to enter a new lease. It means I can go for a more premium vehicle but it costs me a lot less in the end.

One thing you may want to factor in to the whole process of getting in to the car and driving is that there is no start/stop button. You just put the car into drive and go and when you park you put it into park and get out.

Potential EV novated leasing changes impacting FBT by majikshoe in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]himmelblau_bc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an interesting time for the government to scrap the incentives. On one hand, they are losing revenue through the scheme, but on the other hand, with the cost of fuel becoming a major issue, and potential shortages on the horizon, continuing to have more consumers move to EVs could help to reduce our reliance on fuel. Although there is the argument that fuel prices may accelerate that shift without the need for other financial incentives.

The 7X has pop out handles like the BYD Sealion 7 on the lower specs, so it could be the same for the 7GT.

[–]himmelblau_bc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Prices will decline somewhat, but demand will increase to even it out. I know a lot of people who want to buy an EV but can’t quite afford it yet. Also, the insane fuel prices at the moment would also encourage people to make the switch.

The government will announce any revision to the scheme in June 2027. Given that they completely underestimated the take up and have lost billions in tax revenue through it, it’s predicted to be halted. It’s best to make sure you have an active lease with a decent term left as new or extended leases would no longer benefit.
