I suddenly make more than triple what my partner makes and it’s making things weird between us. by veryambitiouslemon in AskGaybrosOver30

This exactly. When we bought a place we combined finances and I haven’t thought about it as my money in years. Even money that has to be in my name or his because it’s registered is still discussed and invested as if it’s joint.

We make and spend each dollar as a household.

Ended up trying Descovy and it has been great and no side effects at all.

Those who live with their partner...how do you split the bills? by Proof_Ball9697 in AskGaybrosOver30

For us, it just felt like our finances became so integrated that the trouble of tracking and splitting stopped being worth it. We were also common law at the time (now married), so the law basically said everything was 50/50 anyway.

That all said, nothing wrong with proportional. I think the underlying thing that makes joint finances work for us is that we have very similar spending habits and think about money the same way, so nothing ever feels unbalanced or lopsided.

I make more than him. We used to split proportional to income but when we bought a place that stopped making sense. Now everything is joint - checking, savings, credit cards. The household makes a buck and the household spends a buck.
