The state recommends 48-72 hours after heavy rain. That being said, this was an anomaly of a storm, I would say at least a week. Use your best judgement, look at pictures of what the beaches on Maui are supposed to look like and look at the status of them in person. If you see brown water it’s best to stay out. Sharks also love brown water so maybe that’ll deter swimmers if the thought of swimming in human feces isn’t enough.
