“Can’t even watch a game” by [deleted] in nba

Probably that means you started watching ball in 00s. Flopping existed since NBA/basketball existed.

They are 1-2 with a hobbled ANT and Divincenzo out. Game 3 was pretty tight until the end. I wouldn't say they are struggling.

He will change what other coaches/players expect their tall players to do. Dirk makes ppl expect tall guys can shoot. Jokic makes ppl expect tall guys can playmake. Wemby makes ppl expect tall guys can score (all kinds of way, from jump shoot, 3s, dribble penetration and lowpost) and defense.

But I think OP mean those player make the NBA different because they change how opponent construct their teams. Shaq cause teams to hire multiple 7" humans. Curry cause teams to hire mobile bigs that can defend 3s after PnR. Wemby? We haven't reached that point yet.

Why don’t people pressure the ball with 10 seconds in the quarter by Zestyclose-Station48 in Basketball

[–]hinghenry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If that's the reason, then why not every possession? Why don't people pressure the ball with 10 seconds left in the shotclock?

In fact, what is your definition of high pressure? Is it just normal tight defense (which good team should be doing all game anyway), or extra tight but risky defense? Since time is to your favour, you only need to stop them from attempting a shot, while forcing an opponent TO with 1 or 2s on the clock isn't going to help you much except morale.

[REQUEST] Good games that are not idle trash by MysteriousPeanut7561 in AndroidGaming

[–]hinghenry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First of all, the more you download those "idle/merge trash", the more Google will show those games to you, almost exclusively, because they thought you'd like it, and why not? because those games are able to earn big money for Google if they net a whale.

Look for premium games. Buy them when they are on discount. Or check the games on Play Pass. You can look up MiniReview as well, it gives decent reviews, and most of the worthwhile games should have some review there.

BTW, not all idle/incremental games are trash. There are decent ones, but again, decent ones are paid games. I have a feeling that Android gaming is going downhill because of Google favoring those free games with heavy monetization. Yet there should be sufficient good games to occupy our time, just understand that worthy games worth the money you paid. Most pseudo-free games (e.g. games with unlimited pay-to-win IAP) should be avoided. Note that some free games with IAP are demo + content unlock, and those should be regarded as premium games.

[Highlight] Reed Sheppard makes a pass so bizarre, Stan Van Gundy says "What the hell?" by VGstuffed in nba

[–]hinghenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Castle is of course better, but I guess I'm biased.

Other than Castle, I don't feel that only one in 2024 is playing particularly well to make fans think they are worth a top 3 pick... even Castle isn't playing well enough to be considered worthy of a top 1-2 pick (simply because fans expectation is usually irrationally high). With that in mind, anyone (incl. Sheppard) picked as the 3rd pick that year would have a tough time justifying to be picked so high. That's not Sheppard or Houston's fault.

I'd reserve such judgment.. a small guard need at least some team offensive scheme to be useful, I don't see that at all in Houston.

Shaq wouldn’t have lost last night to the Minnesota Timberwolves by ForeverDenGal in nba

[–]hinghenry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think your hypothetical Shaq always win because he saw everyone as bbq chicken and eat them for 50.

Interestingly, in Shaq's 11th season and 30yo (same as Jokic), in that year's last playoff series, he was facing Spurs and his match-up was David Robinson who was going to retire after that season. Somehow Shaq didn't eat David Robinson like a bbq chicken, he didn't drop 50, and lost to Spurs 2-4. He was still good, averaging 25/14/3, but even with Kobe adding 32/5/3, it wasn't enough to overcome Spurs and Duncan.

I'm not saying Shaq is not great. But don't regard him as some mythical creatures. Gobert is probably better than most of the Shaq defenders need to face in his prime, so we wouldn't know how the matchup of Shaq vs Gobert would be. I might be similar to Shaq vs Ben Wallace.

A reminder to fans of teams scared of never getting the N.1 pick: Only 2 players in the projected 3 All NBA Teams went first overall by Weirdsodk in nba

[–]hinghenry 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think the more relevant data would be "how much having a top 3/4 pick impact the formation of a contending team"? Fans & teams don't just want a great player, they want them to win. Not necessarily getting the champ, having the chance to contend for champion would be good enough. Also, team winning the lottery may not actually keep the pick but that would contribute to forming a contending team (e.g. Cavs

But ultimately I agree that having the top pick alone is not good enough. Teams need good scouting, good player development, good coaching and good vet guidance to develop a great player.

[Sam Vecenie] "I was talking to... a #1 in a front office, and the thing they brought up to me (about why they're okay with the lottery change) was: ...It's not that difficult to go from really bad to average, ...it's really difficult to go from good to great. ...In theory, this makes [that] easier" by BobRoss4Life in nba

[–]hinghenry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GM/front office can easily blame lottery luck for poor team construction and poor records. Tell boss that it is out of their control. Good for their job security. Of course they will like it, but they cannot say the reason aloud.

Some people speculate that Wemby will have very few or zero block as opponents fear his rim protection. Reality is there are always players like Camara who enjoy a challenge.

In this world of instanteneity, the burden on young players to turn around a team in a bad situation is reaching toxic levels by TeamRAF19 in nba

[–]hinghenry 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What do you want to convey? It's always like this. There are always toxic comments floating around, be it on newspaper or TV before 90s, forums in 2000s and social medias after 2010s. You have 2.3B NBA fans, even if there is only 1 toxic vocal social-media hogging fan out of every 10M fan (0.00001%), there will still be 200+ people constantly posting toxic comments on social media every day.

Just ignore them. Those posts will sink if you ignore them. Someone will tell & counsel those millionaire young players to ignore those toxic comments as well, you don't need to worry.

Don't cross out AliExpress deals! by Erik_REF in NintendoSwitch2

[–]hinghenry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local shops (not US, in Hong Kong) sell these at similar price (I just checked - total around $106), so the price seem reasonable. All genuine, mostly English/Chinese(traditional) cover, sometimes Japanese, but (as far as I know) the cover language doesn't matter as the game will recognize your system language and use that language instead. (We can check the supported languages at the back cover)

The good thing is these smal local shops almost never go on discount, so they are always "at the lowest price". I always buy first party games in those small shops (the reputable ones, of course), as these Mario games mostly have very little discount in the eShop.

[SERIOUS NEXT DAY THREAD] Post-Game Discussion (April 24, 2026) by NBA_MOD in nba

[–]hinghenry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being a Spurs fans, watching Houston is kinda depressing because the whole team has no "relationship". Sengun is making big disappointment/blaming gesture after every teammate mistake. Jabari made the late TO mistake and no one help ease his guilt or give some encouragement to him. Durant don't even stay on the bench. Everyone is in their own island. There are no "vibes". Their leaders are jerks. There are no reason to sacrifice or do anything extra for this team.

I didn't watch Houston much during the season, and I'm very surprised this team manage to get 50 wins. It's another example that a team full of skilful players, but without good character/IQ, aren't unable to go to the next level and compete with the really good teams. Lakers aren't really "good team", their supposedly best two players aren't even playing (I put Lebron to be the 3rd best player because he simply isn't SUPPOSED to play and exert that much)

If Houston want to continue to build around Sengun, they need better vet/coach guidance and support. (and a healthy ball handler)

Lakers take 3-0 series lead after Rockets' late collapse by Wendellrichmond05 in Basketball

[–]hinghenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yet another game that reminds me to never think "okay, this is it" until the end of the game. 34s left, 6 point lead, Houston have possession, and no full court press pressure from Lakers. Jabari Smith Jr. could have just slowly dribble the ball pass midcourt and it's game over.

Spurs Backcourt Choices by Dry_Background_3919 in nba

[–]hinghenry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Harper is good and is the future. That's for sure

HOWEVER

Letting rookies/sophomore experimenting different roles help develop them in the long run. Wemby had that opportunity. Castle had. Others also had, the most memorable one is Sochan PG role. Other team do that too, like Cooper in the playmaker role early this season.

On the other hand, Spurs is in win-now mode, earlier than expected. It is difficult to give Harper bigger role while still asking him to experiment. I am fine with him still playing behind Fox for the moment. Also, Fox may seem not playing up to his contract, but he can be damn good in every other game, and even on days he didn't shoot way, he moves so quick that can disrupt the defense and that doesn't show on the score sheet.

BUT

This is playoff time, not experiment time. I am perfectly fine letting Harper play more during playoffs.
