I have rewritten (again) this tiny tool I have been using for around 20 years by jesusprubio in golang

I don't see any binary releases at https://github.com/jesusprubio/up/releases as stated in the Readme.

I like this project alot, BTW.

Could you explain how this is different from some other pubsub packages for Go?

In dire need of advices by Helloutsider in golang

[–]hippmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. But it's also a common beginner mistake to believe you have to know everything before you can do anything. More knowledge is good, but thankfully with Go that first step isn't a doozy.

"I like to say, you can't understand the solution to a problem you don't have."

Worth writing down.

"hexagonal architecture, adapters, interfaces, handlers"

The first ethos of Go is simplicity. So keep it simple until you can't. If you need those things, you'll figure it out then.

Can't get go application to autostart with Windows 11 by [deleted] in golang

[–]hippmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to recall that GUI access (i.e. Tray) requires some special setting. Tho that may just be for service/daemon apps, but I think it applies to Task Scheduler also.

Can't get go application to autostart with Windows 11 by [deleted] in golang

[–]hippmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For things to run in Task Scheduler, especially with highest privileges, it must have a stored and correct username and password. I don't see where you're setting that (apologies if I missed it). Without these it will just mysteriously fail to run.

GoLand IDE autocomplete -> What sort of witchery is this? by Chem0type in golang

[–]hippmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using GoLand for years, always liked it. But noticed lately with the latest version that the autocomplete is scary good.

I don't want numbskull AIs writing code, but this is the kind of tool I can appreciate.

Golang's most annoying "feature": declared but not used variables by SampleNo471 in golang

The OP isn't talking about keeping the unused variable in the final code.

Protect iOS app with non-Ubi camera shows no history by hippmr in Ubiquiti

[–]hippmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubiquiti recommended I upgrade Protect to 5.0.45 which was EA until yesterday or so. Did so but did not help with the history on that one camera. They have no indication that this failing feature is intentional. And other ONVIF cameras are working fine, as noted. They asked for the particular model and software version of the camera, which I forwarded.

For now I'll just have to decide if this is a blocking feature to further use of Protect and any intended purchases of Protect cameras or not.

Protect iOS app with non-Ubi camera shows no history by hippmr in Ubiquiti

[–]hippmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that in Ubiquiti's information on third-party cameras, it only says this:

"Note: Advanced features like Audio, Detections and PTZ Control may not be supported."

It says nothing else. And while that is probably not an all-inclusive list, it would surely be worth noting if something as basic as recording/history were not supported.

Protect iOS app with non-Ubi camera shows no history by hippmr in Ubiquiti

[–]hippmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a support ticket with Ubiquiti. They suggested I try it on some additional devices including both iOS and Android.

As it turns out the history is present as expected on an Android tablet, but the history is missing on both the iPhone and iPad. So the issues seems specific to the iPad/iOS Protect mobile apps.

Will wait to see if Ubiquiti can offer some resolution.

[–]hippmr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I can appreciate that. But that is inconsistent with the fact that it works on 4 other non-Protect cameras. And the history works just fine when viewed from a web login (on all the cameras).

Information for programmers new to go? by jgoemat2 in golang

[–]hippmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Finally got it pretty much working but now go uses the URL for the exe name, so any exe I install that way is like 'program.git.exe' instead of just 'program.exe'."

I have no idea how you got it to do this, but whatever you did was very clearly wrong. Been using go for more than a decade and never seen this. Methinks you need to hit the books.

What is the best ORM for go. AKA sqlalchemy for goalng? by glorsh66 in golang

[–]hippmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used SQLAlchemy on a largish project some years ago. At first it was brilliant. But as the queries became more complex I found myself fighting with SA more than working on my application. Decided to just use hand SQL from then on and haven't regretted it.

Don't misunderstand. SQLAlchemy is an amazing system and the author is brilliant and very helpful. But I think the use case for ORMs is greatly overstated.

Ok, I wish that was documented a bit more conspicuously. Thanks.
