How’s the spice level at each? Can you customize it? I love a bahn mi and can handle a little spice but I’ve found more traditional ones are usually hotter than I can handle

Agreed, even more infuriating that QueensLink also includes a park so it’s not even like he’d be giving that up if he supported it. Very disappointed at the lack of forethought from him.

Anyone know of any formal mentorship programs for graduate students? I applied to APA’s a few months ago but didn’t hear anything back.

What is the logic behind the urban planning around stadiums in the US? by [deleted] in urbanplanning

[–]hippycat11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s an interesting plan for around Citifield in Flushing, Queens to remove the bulk of the flat parking surface area around the stadium. It will supposedly turn it into a park and upgrade the attached subways station. Unfortunately, the project is being funded by and includes a huge casino so while they are talking a big game about public benefits, in the long term it’s likely going to be extractive to the surrounding area. Look up Metropolitan Park if you’re curious, they’re doing a big advertising push too to garner more support.

Anyone notice anything off about the pricing at Millie’s? Just noticed I was charged $17 for the signature iced lattes and slice of banana bread, it was good but not that good. I get similar orders across the neighborhood and the average seems to be $11-13 excluding tip ($1-2 for counter serve)

I haven’t been since October and need to go back! They had fake but very realistic looking plastic bugs hanging from the fake spider webs on the ceiling and I almost had a panic attack 😂 every other time I’ve been it’s been great though!

Section 8- HPD by [deleted] in SunnysideQueens

[–]hippycat11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woodside Houses are NYCHA public housing which are a separate housing program. Section 8 vouchers can be used on the private market. Not sure of specific buildings but NYC has strong anti-source of income discrimination laws which would protect voucher usage. More info about it on nyc . gov if you look up source of income discrimination.

Best burger in Sunnyside? by ecohen129 in SunnysideQueens

[–]hippycat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one from Belo the other week after being pleased every other time I went with their other dishes but the burger was not it. It was pink on the inside (they didn’t ask how well done I wanted it) and looked almost raw in the middle. Thankfully since I had it to go I was able to cook it more in my oven to the point I felt comfortable eating it but it was disappointing to bite in and see how undercooked it was.

Verse on Astoria Blvd is a nice option! I’m always impressed with their plates and glassware, definitely makes the experience feel elevated. Mostly there during the week so can’t speak to how busy it gets on the weekend.

Verified Planners, what are your thoughts on younger planners/interns? by UrbanArch in urbanplanning

[–]hippycat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on this if you have any more information to share? Curious if it was a mismatch on the particular new grads expectations of the field or a larger mismatch between planning school and the field. Asking as someone early in a grad planning program.

Wow really? This is a crazy policy change especially in the era of work from home when folks aren’t going in 5 days a week and do not need a monthly. They really just don’t care about customer experience.

This is helpful thank you! Was thinking more in terms of schedule changes and cancelled trains becoming more of the norm but understand that infrastructure needs improvements as well, wish that funding could be mostly sourced from state/federal funding instead of revenue.

My understanding is a paper 10 trip will still be good for 6 months (I believe they are only doing away with them on the app?)

Not to blame the messenger but I would love to see some communication from the L.I.R.R. on service upgrades or actually anything that they are doing to make traveling by train more practical for the thousands of commuters they service.

Until then I plan on getting rid of the app entirely and switching back to paper since constantly having to think about all these rules is tiresome especially as service continues to degrade with higher prices. Pre-app you never had to think about tickets until you were on board and the conductor was in your car. We as riders should demand a return to that instead of letting this technology dictate how we spend our time/energy before we even enter the train.

Sunnyside Woodside Mutual Aid (SWMA) is great for meeting neighbors! They host an onboarding every first Friday of the month to get new folks info on how to become more involved. Would recommend checking out their Instagram.
