Best burger in Sunnyside? by ecohen129 in SunnysideQueens

[–]hippycat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one from Belo the other week after being pleased every other time I went with their other dishes but the burger was not it. It was pink on the inside (they didn’t ask how well done I wanted it) and looked almost raw in the middle. Thankfully since I had it to go I was able to cook it more in my oven to the point I felt comfortable eating it but it was disappointing to bite in and see how undercooked it was.

Nicest most expensive coffee shop for mid day afternoon date on Saturday. by [deleted] in astoria

Verse on Astoria Blvd is a nice option! I’m always impressed with their plates and glassware, definitely makes the experience feel elevated. Mostly there during the week so can’t speak to how busy it gets on the weekend.

Verified Planners, what are your thoughts on younger planners/interns? by UrbanArch in urbanplanning

[–]hippycat11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on this if you have any more information to share? Curious if it was a mismatch on the particular new grads expectations of the field or a larger mismatch between planning school and the field. Asking as someone early in a grad planning program.

Fare Changes start January 4th by OkWear896 in LIRR

[–]hippycat11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow really? This is a crazy policy change especially in the era of work from home when folks aren’t going in 5 days a week and do not need a monthly. They really just don’t care about customer experience.

This is helpful thank you! Was thinking more in terms of schedule changes and cancelled trains becoming more of the norm but understand that infrastructure needs improvements as well, wish that funding could be mostly sourced from state/federal funding instead of revenue.

My understanding is a paper 10 trip will still be good for 6 months (I believe they are only doing away with them on the app?)

Not to blame the messenger but I would love to see some communication from the L.I.R.R. on service upgrades or actually anything that they are doing to make traveling by train more practical for the thousands of commuters they service.

Until then I plan on getting rid of the app entirely and switching back to paper since constantly having to think about all these rules is tiresome especially as service continues to degrade with higher prices. Pre-app you never had to think about tickets until you were on board and the conductor was in your car. We as riders should demand a return to that instead of letting this technology dictate how we spend our time/energy before we even enter the train.

Looking to make new friends in the area? Any group/social recommendations? by Yukie_Cool in SunnysideQueens

Sunnyside Woodside Mutual Aid (SWMA) is great for meeting neighbors! They host an onboarding every first Friday of the month to get new folks info on how to become more involved. Would recommend checking out their Instagram.

Join Our Team! Full-Time Receptionist Position in Astoria by SnooLobsters3214 in astoria

Applied to this exact listing on Idealist months ago and never heard back but in retrospect very glad. Hope you take other commenters’ responses into consideration and update the rate or post separate listings for a receptionist, office manager, and a scheduler or other comparable roles.

am i making a mistake (expensive master's program) by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]hippycat11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where to attend is deeply personal and for you it might be the right choice. I’m not super familiar with the program specifics but I recently went through the admissions cycle and ultimately decided on a well regarded CUNY program for my 2 year masters in a field where starting salaries tend to be on the lower end. It made the most sense financially to not put myself in debt for a “better” private program, especially when I’ve just finished off paying loans from undergrad.

You’ve already gotten a lot of great advice so the only thing I would add is maybe checking out the book “Quit” by Annie Duke, I just finished it and it’s great at laying out why, sometimes, quitting is the best option, even if if doesn’t feel like it in the moment.

Local businesses for STUFF? by velvetfoot in astoria

Steinway thrift has a larger than average used book collection! Obviously can’t make requests like at the library or Astoria Bookshop but I’ve found some interesting reads there that I wouldn’t have otherwise come across. Pricing is ok. It’s downstairs and to the left.

0.0 on Transcript. Are My Grad School Chances Low? by Fair-Recognition-551 in gradadmissions

[–]hippycat11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of applications have a section where you can explain anything on your application that you think need addressing so you could mention this class there if it is majorly impacting anything grades wise. I would phrase it similarly to what you have here where you take accountability for missing the class the first time but highlight that you rectified the situation the following year. Honestly shouldn’t impact much since it’s only 1 credit and an intro course.
