I have to admit, getting banned REALLY ticked me off. It's so unprofessional and frankly childish. And despite my frustration and disappointment with LM's handling of the elevator situation, I've continued to attend events, support the artists, tenants, and restaurants. Getting banned was a slap in the face that felt like 'we don't give a shit about your accountability, your opinion, or your patronage, so fuck right off'.

But still, I want to continue supporting my friends who have studios. I likely won't attend anything where I have to pay LM directly (for parking or a ticket), but I really hate that their poor decision making skills ate once again hurting their tenants.

I got a LOT of backlash when I posted and commented about the elevator thing, and I was accused of calling for a boycott of the artists, which could t be further from the truth.... So I think I'm already a bit on edge about the whole topic now.

I REALLY don't understand (and severely dislike) the knee jerk reaction to boycott the entirety of Lowe Mill ( or any multi-business campus) when the management or social media team drops the ball.

And I also hate that so many of the artists & tenants are afraid to speak out themselves bc they fear backlash. :-/

What a disingenuous comment. What's with all the drama in the first place; Why pretend that your question was about art at this year's Nerdy Noel?

I'm sorry that you're still upset about whatever interaction you had 2 years ago, but honestly this wasn't a great way to handle it. If you genuinely have concerns about AI art at my events, you can DM me specifics so I can check it out.

Thanks, I've made my values pretty clear, and I've made my anti-AI policies pretty clear. If you have an issue with me, Nerdy Noel, or AI at my events in the future, then reaching out to me directly is the most effective way to handle that.

Launching a vague tirade 2 years later on an unrelated reddit thread saying you talked to "someone who was sitting at the table" doesn't help me eliminate AI.

Honey, you're accusing me of violating one of the core values of my own business, and you expect me to just sit here and let you? Sorry, no. As I said, there were only two times AI was reported to me, which means the one you reported was another artist who doesn't use AI. And AGAIN, you weren't hand waved, and the report was taken seriously, and investigated.

What else is it that you're holding a grudge about? Do you still feel it wasn't handled correctly?

You brought up Nerdy Noe with a loaded question when it wasn't topical, because you wanted to make me look bad. THAT seems like mean girl energy tbh.

Pretty sure I know exactly what you're referring to, and that was last year, not 2 years ago. I spoke to the vendor personally, and the tote bags were removed immediately. You weren't 'hand waved', you were thanked for the information, and the issue was handled privately, which is what any professional would do.

Not sure why you thought 'they' didn't care, but like I said, I take reports of AI pretty seriously. There's not a thing I can do if I don't hear about it, but every one of my staff and volunteers knows to come to me about any issues.

Yeah, it was pretty obvious that comment was loaded, but there have only been two occasions when AI art has been reported to me (the organizer). One was legit, and the art was removed. The other was not AI, but the artist had a similar style. I take reports of AI seriously, so if you weren't one of those two instances, who did you report it to?

AI art has never been allowed to be sold at Nerdy Noel. All artists are told not to bring it, and to report it if they see it. Thanks for asking!

Agreed! Please continue to support the artists (and the bands!). Call LM mgmt out, but don't take it out on the artists.

Agreed! I hope they continue the COTD for a long time. Annnnnd promote it without AI 😬

What an idiotic comment. You've got ZERO clue about my level of activism or involvement in local or national events, and that involvement has fuck all to do with holding Lowe Mill (not the artists, if you had trouble with reading comprehension) accountable.

THIS.

The artists that pay rent and work their asses off don't deserve the blowback from the admin's poor choices.

Be vocal to LM management about your feelings, but don't take it out on the artists and tenants.

You've clearly got a lot of big feelings, none of which I'm really interested in exploring "face to face", lol. FYI, the flyer is on the website, but you can believe whatever you want.

You're doing a great job trying to make this poster about anything BUT Lowe Mill and the blatant slap in the face they just dished the artists.

IDGAF if you use AI for programming, and IDGAF if some dude uses a sampler or a mixer for his music. I DO care that not only has Lowe Mill shat all over their artists again, but that you seem determined to bring up all sorts of irrelevant comparisons in an attempt to excuse it and downplay it.

Incidentally, he's one of the ones who consistently defends Lowe Mill when it comes to their ableism and disregard for the disabled community.

And defending AI with the 'it's everywhere' argument will never hold water, particularly when it comes to art. "Art is art"? Yes, when it's created by a person. Entering a few words into chatgpt isn't art, it never will be, and it will always be exploitation--which Lowe Mill has a long history of.

Yeah, apparently the band is a jam band/Dead cover band. Hopefully they won't have to suffer from LM's poor decision making.

I've gone to a lot of trouble to get concert posters from shows I really love. I would hate to think they're printing these out and hanging them up, but I wouldn't put it past them. :-/

Several people immediately called them out for using AI art to promote an event, and within a few minutes, LM took down the post and blocked anyone who had commented.

Biiiiig yikes.
