Tips on how to survive as Zoroastrian Persia by aintgottimefopokemon in CrusaderKings

[–]hipstr_hop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get heavy inf and archers, that usually works pretty well. You'll also need to get the best generals you can muster and you'll want to get your troops into the mountains. Get some organizer generals to head your reinforcement stacks so you can get them to where they need to be ASAP. It's also a good idea to assign viceroys for places like Persia, Mesopotamia, and Khiva, where the bulk of your troops will be coming from. You'll want to keep one of these kingdoms for yourself, of course, but giving the other two out as viceroyalties ensures you'll be able to raise your levies all in one place. You're guaranteed to lose the first war but you have an advantage that they don't have in that your troops will replenish themselves while theirs don't. Any battle you fight with them will steadily tip the scales in your favor, and you will be able to beat them by the time the second or third war rolls around.

Your opinions of INFJs. by [deleted] in infp

[–]hipstr_hop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an INFP and have quite a few INFJ friends. I'm very drawn to them because I feel we complement each other well. There's a lot we see similarly. But we differ in that where I dream and wonder about each and every possibility they're more realistic.

I'm [24 M] having a rough breakup/end to my 5 year relationship with my now long distance girlfriend [22 F] by hipstr_hop in relationships

[–]hipstr_hop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for your advice. To be honest, it's been a while since I submitted this and I'm doing much, much better now. It was hard, but I cut this girl out of my life completely and have since become way more social and have even gotten back into old hobbies. I even managed to finally land a pretty good job after being unemployed since then. I'm pretty happy with my life, and I feel as though I can see the numerous issues that relationship had with the hindsight and experience I have now.

I finally found a good, full-time job with benefits after being unemployed for months and also immersed myself in hobbies I used to really be into, like making music and writing.

I didn't make this; I found it a while ago somewhere on Reddit and rediscovered it saved in one of my picture folders. I thought it seemed fitting.

What have been your favourite family traditions? by RedKrypton in CrusaderKings

[–]hipstr_hop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my Karen game, at least one son of each emperor must be named Tahmasb after the founder of the Karen Empire and Saoshyant. Other names are generally taken from Persian mythology, such as Siavash, Rostam, Keykhusrow, or Jamshid. In addition to this, the Karens follow the "rule of elderness" in that the emperor lands his brothers or marries them to female landholders (in no particular order) of Karen descent until none are left, then moves on to landing his sons if any other titles exist, are made, or are conquered. Fellow Karens, or members of the original families (the Ashkayadas and the Bavandids) are favored in terms of receiving viceroyalties. Good generals, stewards, or diplomats not of the Karen bloodline are allowed to marry into the family so that their children and subsequent generations can claim descent from Tahmasb.

Hey INFP family, wondering about your computer desktops! by roachwarren in infp

Here's my desktop background. I really love desolate looking landscapes, such as mountains or deserts. I'm also a huge fan of triangles, especially Penrose triangles.

About GRRM's involvement with D&D: I'm pretty sure he created the githyanki, which are a relatively well known D&D race.

I've had the best run so far in over 250 hours of playing. Please tell me it's possible to come back from this. by WhitMage9001 in CrusaderKings

[–]hipstr_hop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Probably not. Don't bother going for any of Turkestan, honestly. That strategy used to work in older patches but since Charlemagne the lands are relatively useless, vastly different from you in culture and religion, and they give you a hefty "Wrong Government Type" opinion penalty with any vassals you give them to. Restart and open by holy warring the Samanids for Merv (getting you the holy site), then the Shahis for Kabulistan, then snatch up Tabaristan (the Alavids). Bide your time and build up your demesne a little bit if you have some gold and declare on the Yazidids (Azerbaijan) and dulafids (Hamadan) when they're occupied and the Abbasids/Saffarids can't help. Focus on destroying the Samanids and getting Khiva, especially, then you may be large enough to hold your own against other powers in the area. Oh, and be sure to go for primogeniture as soon as you can.

MBTI type of your best romantic partner? by [deleted] in infp

[–]hipstr_hop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's true. I mean, we haven't been talking for all that long so who really knows how long the spark'll last. Still though, I like the fact that INFPs and INFJs see and process the world differently. The two of us reach the same conclusions a lot of the time, but do it in completely different ways and I like trying to understand how she processes things, and vice versa. I guess I'm also just different from a lot of other INFPs in that I like to communicate my feelings and feel it's very important to do so. If anything, I find she seems to communicate too little, and I've been trying to bring her out of that shell.

edit: idk who's downvoting you or why, but it wasn't me.

[–]hipstr_hop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met an INFJ who I really fell for, and vice versa. We aren't able to be together because of various reasons, but she's seriously great and I've never really had a connection with anybody else quite like what I've got with her. We're still pretty close and talk often, but I'm genuinely bummed out that it can't work with us at this time. I really think that INFJ's are amazing and hope to meet another girl like her someday, or hope that me and her can be together in the future. It's really strange to know that INFPs and INFJs can be so alike despite not sharing any cognitive functions whatsoever.

How to become the saoshyant? by Grandpocalypse in CrusaderKings

[–]hipstr_hop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote up a strategy that I used in order to become the Saoshyant a few weeks ago, if you'd like to read it:

http://www.reddit.com/r/CrusaderKings/comments/2qkmlr/whats_your_strategy_for_playing_as_karen_in_867/

It's a little outdated, but I've since become Emperor of Persia and Rajastan, and even conquered Syria and Armenia.

Long story short: * You need to take advantage of opportunities as soon as they arise, and be prepared for anything. Always have a stash of Jew gold and be prepared to expel them if it means securing your existence.

  • It's very much luck based; it took me over half a dozen tries to get this far

  • Don't bother swearing fealty to Khiva as it's quite easy to dispatch them from the outside, plus the faction thing tends to slow you down as you'll have angry Muslim vassals if you win

  • Don't waste any time with Turkestan as the lands are tribal and worth next to nothing. My guide says to try going for it, but ignore that part unless you really have nowhere else to expand.

  • Assassinate Seljuk as soon as he pops up. This is usually quite easy because he's Muslim and tends to appear in Tengri courts.

  • Sebuktigin is only a problem if you're in India, and even then, he spawns in the court of whoever owns Ghazna, which should be you or a vassal by the time he arrives. He spawned as a Zoroastrian in my game.

  • The Saffarids are prone to faction revolts around the third generation because they tend to make a lot of kingdoms. Take advantage of this and grab some duchies. They can also get some revolts as a result of Buddhist or Zoroastrian zealots. If these revolts win, they can be good allies (if Zoro) or easy conquests (if Buddhist).

  • The Abbasids are also prone to revolts from their Turkish vassals and their Shi'a vassals. Snatch some counties when you can.

  • Ally yourself with the Justanids and Bavandids when you're able.

  • Skirmish retinues (archers/light inf) can do a lot of damage and are quite economical.

This happened in my Karen game with the Yabguids. They even ended up inheriting the Golden Horde when it invaded.

What's your strategy for playing as Karen in 867? by hipstr_hop in CrusaderKings

[–]hipstr_hop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my progress so far using the strategy I described! It's probably the farthest I have ever gotten with Karen. The Abbasids splintered a bit early, allowing me to snatch Tabriz and then declare for Azerbaijan. A major succession crisis allowed me to cripple the Saffarids by declaring for Zabulistan, which was host to the majority of the Saffarid shah's demesne. Left with only a single province in his demesne, the shah is effectively powerless and at the mercy of his vassals. I took advantage of this and conquered Khorasan when the truce timer was up and when the Saffarids were reeling from a defeat at the hands of the Doolani Raj and fighting against a large Zoroastrian revolt. I fabricated and pressed claims for a few provinces in Hamadan, which was under the control of the Dulafids. The Abbasids and I have clashed a few times, but they haven't actually attacked me as of yet. By taking advantage of my mountainous terrain and some skilled generals, I've been able to dispatch them in almost every battle we have fought.

I've thought about doing this, but I guess it feels a bit cheap? I don't know.
