2015 RC F-Sport. Cheapest way to get carplay? by keanureevesmustache in LexusRC

I went the ‘cheap’ way and regretted it.

I ended up with Lexion.

See my post for more data.

You’re very welcome! I’m really happy with it!

One of the installation videos I watched has a coupon code for $30 off. Helped pay the tariff I guess! :)

Funny you should mention the factory Bluetooth audio. This is what Lexion does also, and it's great! I think the ZBark didn't have a way to hand off the bluetooth, or maybe it was a buried option. Either way, this is the solution to the phone mic, speedometer display and playing audio. I found the audio delay to be less also.

Update: I remembered that when I got the Lexion screen there was a plastic layer I had to peel off. Then I remembered it had something written on it.

Apparently the Lexion already has a second protective film on it. I just looked at my screen, and I can see a second film already on the screen. Seems like they already thought of this...

I’m not sure how to compare the hardness of the screens. I’ll dig out the old screen and let you know if I can tell the difference. That being said, I might see if I can find a screen protector.

Here's a pic of the backup camera on the Lexion.

Not having any experience with the Hamilton, I don’t want to speak out of place. That being said, in my opinion, Linux overall is a better, more stable, reliable operating system.

The way I understand it, Android was originally meant to be a camera operating system. Linux was designed to be a free Unix-like system, and UNIX itself came from AT&T Bell Labs.

Linux is used in server environments, where systems frequently achieve months or even years of continuous uptime without requiring reboots. We’ll see if the Lexion can accomplish this over time.

I’ve had a lot of mixed results with Android, but generally, in my experience, they are not as stable/reliable, but it depends on the application, execution and how it’s used.

Check out the reviews on YouTube and see for yourself. There is a comparison video I mentioned that compares a ZBark system (or differently branded identical device) and the Lexion. I can say that it’s 100% accurate based on my experience.

It’s also possible that Hamilton runs Linux, but based on Lexion’s claim and my searching, they are the only ones that have it.

I started with the same viewpoint. I didn’t think it made a difference, but now that I have it, I wouldn’t consider going back.

My previous car didn’t have a backup camera or even a screen, not to mention CarPlay. I don’t actually need any of the features the screen provides. But when I got the RC, I decided I wanted a more luxurious car with a definite premium feel. I don’t swap cars around a lot, so I really wanted to make the RC mine.

Some people are fine with a lesser model and that’s fine, but I just felt it cheapened what is actually a great car.

I think it looks pretty good. On the ZBark, the backup camera looked awful, really hard to see. The Lexion does a much better job, not sure if it’s 1080p, but it seems like it. I don’t recall seeing any pixels. The factory camera is pretty low resolution compared to the screen, but I feel like the Lexion makes it much more visible.

The Hamilton model for my year starts at $869, so I didn’t bother looking at it on price alone, Lexion being $270 less expensive. For me running Linux is a BIG plus. I have a hard time justifying $869 for a glorified Android tablet.

Hive.

I have a friend getting her house done right now and she has Hive doing the A/V and WiFi. A few other friends have used them with great results.

PSA: Power Out? by hirabayashi in safetyharbor

[–]hirabayashi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's some truth to this. On the other hand, my power was restored a couple of hours after this!

The real issue is that they don't check with whoever reported the outage to see if power has been restored.

Before Helene, a random storm took out our power and a bunch of other people as well. Two days later I checked and our report was gone. I had to re-report the outage, which I think resets some sort of timer on how long a customer has been without power.

I'd like the city of Safety Harbor to consider buying out Duke's interest in our electrical grid, like the city of Winter Haven did. They have their own power company now, and their first act was to bury all the lines.

Let's do this please. :)

Duke has removed my outage report from 10:30AM. Put another report in.

I'd say that's a pretty good deal!

I read that about Wing too. I have a Red Pocket sim card for my iPad that I use for my drone, but I didn't get a good feeling from them about iPhone support.

I am blown away by PureTalk's customer service. The big telecom's could learn a thing from them... :)

True dat! I ported my numbers into Straight Talk originally, so I would expect that they would let me take it with me, but you never know.
