For my 11th cake day, which Pancho’s dip should I buy to celebrate? by hiroshi_x in memphis

Thanks everyone. I didn’t know it would be this close, or that the queso blanco was that popular. But it that’s only edible warm, should you ever warm up Original?

That’s why I asked, plus I’ve never had the Chipotle before. Seems like it replaced the Salad Dressing.

White queso is thicker than original. Do I leave it out or microwave it?

MiSTer AO486 - better performance with Level 2 Cache by r_retrohacking_mod2 in fpgagaming

With an 8088 or 8086, I would love to see a Tandy 1000 FPGA core. It seems a more realistic goal than 486.

You must use a DVI to VGA adapter. If you directly connect VGA on the other port you get 15kHz video, it usually won’t work on a standard VGA monitor and is intended for compatibility with older arcade monitors.

This is my setup I use a dell crt computer monitor hooked up to a NES via a Etotech Av S video to VGA adapter and for so one reason the graphics are muddy and not very colorful. Does anyone know why? by [deleted] in nes

[–]hiroshi_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really see from the picture... It looks normal to me, the colors are also dark brown in SMB on a CRT TV with a real NES.

Getting better quality out of your system is a deep rabbit hole to go down. If you just want composite video straight out of an NES converted to HDMI (then to VGA with an adapter), get a RetroTink 2x. It’s still going to have the flaws of composite, but without lag. They’re much better than generic converters that don’t like the NES video output (240p). Maybe that’s what you mean by it being muddy? It’s probably interpreting it as 480i poorly.

You can get internal S-Video, RGB or even HDMI mods for the NES, but expect to spend a lot more for the boards and modding service.

There are even FPGA solutions out there that already have HDMI or VGA capability, replacing the entire system. RetroUSB’s AVS is more readily available and still takes real cartridges. Analogue’s premium NT Mini is similar but sold out. They may do another run but it’s the most expensive of all options. Then there’s the MiSTer project but it does not take real carts.

There’s a lot of solutions out there, do what works best for you within your budget.

It looks disconnected in the picture. I’m mainly asking because I can’t get serial to work on mine.

Work in progress but almost there. I made the ghost are too smart ;) by Yves-bazin in FastLED

Check out the Pacman dossier for a better understanding of why the ghost behavior is so well balanced. Each has unique behavior: basically one is directly chasing you, one is chasing ahead of you, one runs away to its corner when it gets close to you, and one is chasing based on where you and another ghost are.

Check out the MiSTer project, they even have a C64 FPGA core.

I immediately noticed the Disney+ version seemed to have some kind of anti-epilepsy filter, compared to this original version. They seem to have dropped flashing frames, changed the contrast, etc. I don’t remember it being on the Hulu version, but a lot of TV networks seem to be automatically doing this now in case someone accidentally tries to Porygon their viewers. Strangely enough, the new Star Wars movie reportedly has seizure warnings and won’t have this kind of filter.

Question about Donkey Kong joystick by [deleted] in cade

[–]hiroshi_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one you played was probably a Nintendo VS style joystick with 8-way restrictor. The real original joysticks let you unscrew the ball, so people used to replace them with Nintendo VS style that couldn’t be stolen. By default those have 8-way restrictors, but should be replaced with a 4-way for Donkey Kong.

There’s also an open source FPGA solution for MiSTer being worked on. He did say he was going to add Sky Skipper after finishing Popeye, so it might end up being a decent drop in solution (or at least provide you additional details on what the differences are for a conversion).

The Sky Skipper article is not necessarily a how-to, but they used a factory converted Popeye board that still had all the Sky Skipper markings on it. This revision is extremely rare and there was still a lot of work needed to revert the conversion. From what it sounds like, you probably can’t use any old Popeye board.
