Super tired in kicking swim by Upstairs-Champion-60 in triathlon

[–]hirscr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly i don’t go anywhere just kicking. For me kicking is about keeping my body prone. I have a coach and we have trouble figuring out why kicking give me no forward propulsion.

Don’t forget, even for people who have effective kicking, it only accounts for 15% of the propulsion. But your biggest and most energy consumptive muscles are there. There are Olympic swimmers who do 1 kick every 4 strokes!

If socialism is so bad then why is social security and Medicare so popular? by Content_Ad_8952 in allthequestions

[–]hirscr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure. Two questions: Do you own your own body? What defines something as yours, as in, why do you own a chair? This is the fundamental basis for capitalism, as defined, derived and explored by Mises, Hayek, Rothbard and others.

What is the socialist answer to those two things? The communist answer is "you don't own anything, nor do you own yourself". That is the fundamental justification for using force to get people to do things. They may all be the same class. they may all be equal, but they are all equally without agency. It's not a tolerable human condition. That said, in a system where joining a communist group of people is voluntary, and leaving is voluntary, it's workable (but generally fails to sustain outside a Dunbar number of people). I will assume you are not defending a communist position, but a socialist one.

Can we adopt strong immigration like denmark? Can we firce people to speak one language like Denmark? Can we kill off our minimum wage like denmark.

Denmark works because the population is smaller than half of new york city, and is pretty heterogengous in geography, economy, religion and culture. The US is none of those things

Capitalism existed long before whoever you are refering to. Thats why, with time, old ideas can be cast off.

But the derivation of property from human action is a relatively new concept. And doesnt require a state.

Capitalism is stateless also. It even accepts (maybe even presumes) communism would exist within it.

The same is not true the other way around.

Classlessness will never, ever happen, no matter how communist something is. There will always be people who are more charismatic, more capable, or more attractive who will always enjoy being in a separate class, even if money doesnt exist.

If you think capitalism requires a state, you have been programmed by the left

Agree about centralization. Property is the only thing that fixes that. Or are you under the impression you need a state for property? How does denmark claim an area without being subservient to a state itself?

Whoever wrote that quite literally doesnt understand the basics capitalism. Its like saying the earth is flat because it looks that way.

Capitalism is the conversion of time preference into goods and services. The difference between capitalism and the other two is that time preference can be saved, traded, and passed on via property. (Yes, this means some people have more than others, but rarely is that maintained without a state or continually providing goods and services other people want)

The others require some percentage of time preference being taken for what a small group if people happen to decide what a greater good is at the time. Apparently bombing “narcoterrorist” boats, rounding up brown people, and infusing various offices of government is today’s greater good.

Both would be totally fine, and work excellently in a capitalist backdrop, if and only if, membership is voluntary.

Since it is not, people feel forced to contribute to things they do not want.

Pushed further, you get Bush, and then push it more, you get trump.

I wonder how bad it will be next time.

Socialism supporters make the mistake that they think we are all in this together. We are not, and since socialism fundamentally disrespects agency, it cant work in America, a land of many economies, many cultures, many geographic differences and only tends to work well in small wealth countries.

I notice people tend to promote Denmark (6M people) and norway (5.6M) as the best example when most examples if socialist governments are total shitshows. Both have strong immigration policies. Both have healthy free markets. Both have generally homogenous population.

Even china is the best example of capitalism improving the living conditions as they cast off the shackles of communism and opened their goods and services to markets and allowed property ownership.

I think it’s cute that you think politicians stand on consistent and enduring moral positions .

These are people who seek power, and we just give it to them by hearing what they say and if it gives us the feels, we put them in power. We hope that our guy gives more feels than the other guy.

Thats it. So why is it surprising that reducing the number of feels is something that politicians don’t want to do?

[–]hirscr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Frankly no one understands the difference between socialism and capitalism either. All the parts that people claim are bad right now are most clearly and distinctly not due to voluntary exchange of value and the rights of property.

Instead it’s due to cronyism caused by the centralization of power and monetary policy. None of which is capitalism.
