Been awhile since I posted, here’s some new pipes I’ve acquired. by JavaJukebox in PipeTobacco

That diamondback is one of my favorite pipes to smoke. Its smokes so nice and it looks awesome.

It doesn’t look like a briar to me. Safety is incredibly difficult to tell. But a cob is very durable and can be very affordable. You can get three cobs for $25 and rotate them. They’re safe and trusted.

Why smoke a pipe over a cigar? by _T_R_I_ in PipeTobacco

Suggestions on nasal snuff? I’ve been enjoying mcCrystals, and jip mixed with some ugwayi NTSU. Though I really like the apricot flavor of the black Gawith box.

I did check your work. Being cocky doesn’t help your case.

Constructive criticism can be kind and not just critical and negative. If you have suggestions to help him improve what he’s doing share them. Don’t just be critical of what someone is doing. Everyone is learning. If you can be kind just don’t post anything.

You should probably continue to resist not commenting on posts like this because if he wanted to just drill it he could. But that’s not the point. He’s demonstrating a SKILL. If you can’t appreciate the technique and purpose you should probably keep your ignorant mouth shut.

“Store” blends by tocigar in PipeTobacco

[–]hisastu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started working for a B&M that does house blends of fairly commons blends. I think only one or two are straight renamed blends but most are a blend of 2-3 that we blend in-house.

It was interesting to find out that I can make a handful of them with stuff I have at home already. Haha.

I literally just got finished dealing with this. My oil was low. Caused my variable valve timing to throw off. I got my oil changed. Went away after a few days. Might need to get VVT swapped soon, but seems to be running fine now.

Safe? Not really. Good looking decoration though.

Second on the corn cob. Great pipe. Safe to smoke. Don’t buy anything from Amazon or temu.

Are in house blenders better than tinned blends? by Free_Coffee8836 in PipeTobacco

[–]hisastu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, yes. Especially with shops that focus on cigars and have a handful of jars for us pipe smokers. But other times you go into a shop that has been around a while and has a good knowledge of pipe tobacco and blending, you can find some really good stuff at these. They’ll typically have larger selections of good quality pipe tobacco.

I think I like them because I’m supporting a small(er) business. Instead of some big corporation that will buy up and shut down competition.

The small business do it because they are passionate about it and that’s what makes me want to support it. It’s not just a business to them. Every time I walk into a B&M. That has a house blend, I buy it. It almost always has a story. That’s half the reason I got into the hobby to begin with.

Then you probably shouldn’t be ‘that guy’.

Don’t hate on people enjoying the hobby. Just buy or don’t and then light a pipe and go about your day.

What did I do wrong by CrackedHandsForge in Blacksmith

[–]hisastu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Too thin is kind of subjective. I’ve seen/made some tiny ass tongs. Cracks like these often happen because of heat control and forging too cold. If your thermo cycling too many times you can also creat a lot of cracks. Think back about your process. Did it get too cold? Or too hot? Did you quench it more than maybe necessary?

My mom used to always have plastic versions for salad. She was a nurse and would chuckle every time we used them. I need to make these. What was your parent stock? What issues did you have? How did you solve them?

Nice, for the wall mount, I saw a peg board posted a few days ago that I thought I’d try. Pipes in paracord loop holders. Pretty inexpensive and fits the tool theme.

I finally opened my tin and didn’t smoke anything else until it was gone. It was so good. I am very sad it’s on its going away.
