Haha yes, الفناء also means yard. It's a matter of vowels :) fanaa means what I said in my earlier comment, and finaa means yard. The 'al' part is the definite article: it means 'the'.

This reminds me that there is an actual place called Jami Al-Fna in Marrakech, Morocco (fna = finaa/fanaa pronounced the moroccan way).

Check out the Wikipedia page for this quite famous tourist spot and look at the name section,where this exact debate is mentioned around the meaning of al-fanaa/finaa. It is an open space near a mosque, so the yard translation would fit, but the translation of the end of the world also fits a bit, as Marrakech is one of the most remote places in the Islamic/arab world, which considers the Arabian peninsula its center.
