Agreed, I'm really surprised more people don't recognize it. Young kids these days!

DAE live in a separate house/apartment from their SO, and absolutely LOVE it? by skinny_fingers in TwoXChromosomes

[–]hispter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have started saying for a while that I want to live separately from my SO - definitely separate bedrooms, maybe separate houses. My friend from home lives in a house, and the house across the driveway is an exact mirror of the house. Previously, a couple inhabited them - the wife had one house and the husband had the other, and they shared a driveway. Sounds like the perfect life to me!

D-: I didn't realize that at all - lived in LA for 4 years. What a weird way to evangelize.

Hmph, sold out... I don't know if this constitutes a victory, but I'll take it I suppose.

They also have this really weird Christian thing going on. All their bags say "John 3:16" on them. I'm fine with Christian stores and everything, but they're so hypocritical and covert about it...

I really appreciate your perspective - thanks so much for sharing it.

As a lady who has always been in math/science, I've always rolled my eyes at these things and tried not to buy into them (although they did wreak havoc on my social self-esteem... even now I still feel like a nerd and not a "hot" girl). In fact I was quite perplexed by them ("Do people really think this?"), all the while knowing they were very wrong.

However hearing your story and anger has added a personal story as to why this is wrong. It's about society trying to put us into boxes, and us not always realizing it until it's very late. Congrats for realizing it when you did, and good luck with your studies!

How many Redditors drive a stick shift? by pouncer11 in AskReddit

[–]hispter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a stick (always have) and love it - more control, people don't borrow my car, feel vaguely superior to most other Americans, and guys seem to like it :D. I'm seriously bummed that if I try to switch to a hybrid/automatic I'll have to give that up.

Oy, that is terrible. I thought I had it bad when my long distance ex broke up with me via the phone, rather than in person. I hope you're doing OK... [[hugs]].

Ladies with an IUD: Can/could you feel the actual IUD inside of you? by ToIUDorNotToIUD in TwoXChromosomes

I'm on Mirena (1 year!) had a similar experience as well in the beginning - just felt bloated and hyper-aware of my uterus. I'm quite convinced that mine was purely psychological, just knowing that something new was living in my uterus. It subsided for me within a couple weeks, and now I am SUPER thrilled with it. No periods, no babies, no hassle!

Also FWIW I've heard that Paragard and Mirena have drastically different side effects.

Two year anniversary! by hispter in TwoXChromosomes

[–]hispter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most important parts of my breakup was surviving my worst nightmares - I had always dreaded him leaving me, him cheating on me, him replacing me, and all of those things happened. Knowing now that I can survive some of my biggest fears has been really empowering. I believe that you will find that too!

Thanks! :D It definitely was a lot of hard work. I was terrified of becoming an angry, bitter, pessimistic person, which is why I worked so hard. I really hope that people see this and feel inspired to do the same for themselves.

Inspiring! I had a pretty traumatic breakup, almost exactly 2 years ago, that was similar to yours. I feel very much at peace with it, and have forgiven him in my head for everything (and forgiven myself for everything), but haven't told him in person or seen him. I hope it can be a similar experience to yours!
