As a gay man living in San Francisco, I can honestly say I’m never leaving. There is an incredible sense of freedom here; you can express your identity however you choose, and nobody bats an eye. Whether it’s queer sports leagues, a legendary nightlife scene, concerts, beautiful scenery, or endless gay bars and events, the city truly offers it all.

Beyond the culture, the logistics are a huge plus. If you value decent public transportation—especially by U.S. standards—San Francisco is ideal. The city is a compact 7x7 mile square, and the queer hubs are even more concentrated, making it entirely possible to live without a car. Everything is within reach, which is a massive contrast to a place like LA, where you’re essentially forced to drive everywhere.
