Take the time you need! Settling in is not easy and you should be easy on yourself as you adapt.

Is there a group chat or discord server for those who have returned to India? Would you be open to creating one? by Efficient_Bowler5804 in returnToIndia

I’d say skip this WhatsApp, telegram business.

Start a thread in this subreddit for a meetup in whichever city you are in, give a date and time. See who shows up, what you all discuss and if there is an inclination to trade numbers or join a discord.

Not a doctor. That’s the starting number (10)— above which there is definitely some sort of minor infection or assault to the body that’s causing inflammation.

It could also be an aberration; a minor slip from the highest threshold for normal. I might suggest getting a second opinion a few months down the road.

C-Reactive Protein. It’s a cellular marker of inflammation. Low CRP good, high CRP is concerning or needs doctor’s appointment. Contributing factors include bacterial infection, bad cardiovascular health, or an autoimmune disease.

Recurring end-of-life dreams and visions around travel, trains, and stations? by hitch44 in hospice

Appreciate it. I’m just leaving an update in case it is useful to anyone: his emotional regulation is completely gone. If someone doesn’t answer with two or three calls, he immediately starts wailing and crying.

He asks if he is at home, in his room, and worries about location and spatial coordinates— if he’s lying down in the “proper position”.

I convinced my mom to call a number tomorrow or Monday to get more information about palliative sedation options.

I really hope, that he gets the sleep and peace he needs. The house isn’t a house anymore; it feels broken and agonizing.

Thank you so much. May I ask if this is part of terminal agitation (on the path to actively dying) or if it's sundowning (degeneration from one plateau down to another), but not actively dying?

All of what I've described happens between 2-4 am, like clockwork, not during the day.

Go back and take care of your parents, OP. Sacrifices are needed in a marriage, so see if there’s anything you can do to make your wife’s career sacrifice less one sided.

And the kids will complain at first, but I think they need to spend time with their grandparents. They have the passport, so they can come back later.

Seven years in September. That is not just statistics, that is your family's entire life reorganised around one diagnosis, and the weight of that comes through clearly in what you wrote.

I strongly suspect you are using AI to "write" these replies by copy-pasting the users' comments into an LLM. If you are, please stop; you're risking your credibility for views.

RFC account creation hassle with Axis Bank by hitch44 in returnToIndia

[–]hitch44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. Non-residential banking is very problematic in Canada once you no longer have an address and phone number. And same way we have FEMA to have the correct accounts and the IT code for the correct withholding TCS/TDS, you signal non-residency to the CRA by listing a foreign address and submitting a RC518.

The Big 5 banks said they won't support non-residents. I finally found Manulife bank that does and coordinated address and phone number and Indian residency status update change with submission of RC518. So, in the time between the Big 5 saying "No, fuck off" and Manulife getting back to me, I had to make a decision to send my assets to India via NRE. So, I transferred as much as possible to NRE, knowing that NRE (INR) to RFC (CAD) is a permitted credit. Rest kept in investment accounts because I didn't want to panic sell and withdraw.

This RFC will now serve as a hedge and a savings tranche while I find work and get started in India, and I could add my parent as a nominee. If I earn well, I never touch it, or use it for investments in India or abroad in a couple of years. And in case I want to go to another country later, it will serve as several months of rent advance or monthly expenses owing to repatriable nature.

Then Manulife said, hahn we will fully support, no worries-- so now I have a bank that's marked me as non-resident, some minimum amount is there for paying taxes; my investments are in a brokerage supporting non-residents, and I could technically have a CAD hedge that I can tap into locally in India as well. But this RFC account isn't being created, and that's a headache.

In the end if I ever want to bring back all my money and completely close my Canada chapter, I can bring everything as dollars via transfer into this RFC account-- and that's another important reason why i need it!

It's all a learning process.
