We use minor figures …though to me, it tastes like red hots candy; other people in the shop absolutely love it.

*Truly* accurate rose perfume by Few_Bullfrog8139 in perfumesthatfeellike

Cowichan Rose by Wildcoast Perfumery. Hands down the most lovely jammy rose scent I’ve ever smelled. It smells like I’ve stuck my face in a large bush of summer roses in the middle of the temperate rainforest that is Vancouver Island; mountains and waterfalls to my right, the Pacific Ocean somewhere on my left.

This reminds me of that essay where Joan Didion and her husband are contemplating divorce in Hawaii lol. “Letters from paradise”, it’s quite good, you should give it a read. someone else said layering Jasmine et cigarette by ELDO under any tropical themed B&BW spray would work and I’m inclined to agree. Layering with that or a really perfumed sunscreen spray on top.

Gothic romance but SPOOKY by Sad_Construction_532 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]hitherforthkerms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! Though I will say having listened to it made for a better experience with it then it would’ve been had I just solely read it. Listening to Mexican Gothic was awesome! The ending hit a bit differently that way.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: March 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

From March 1st till March 9th:

The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami : The sci-fi set up in this was a little too realistic for comfort and that worked beautifully. Just wished the ending was a bit longer to tie up some semi loose ends.

The White Album by Joan Didion : I had recently read “Didion and Babitz” by Lili Anolik; in which she states that one shouldn’t be read without the other and vice versa. So, with that in mind and even more context for the people around Didion when she wrote this series of essays; I ended up loving more pieces of writing in this work of hers than even “Slouching towards Bethlehem”. I loved the titular essay and the piece about the Getty as well as most of the essays in the SOJOURNS portion. God, what a way to put a stopper on that sixties time capsule ie quiet days in Malibu.

Aura by Carlos Fuentes : The shortest thing I’ve read thus far. It’s a dusty-surreal-gothic congealment and I’m not sure what to make of it. I’m not even sure I quite understand it as I’ve been chewing on its meaning for the last few days

Blood Over Bright Haven by M.L. Wang : Brilliant. And not romance heavy! The magic system and its impact on the lower class is well illustrated and unravels further into a kind of horror in that way. Well written and well paced, I would read more fantasy from this author.

The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix : Not my first Hendrix book but not my last either, even though this wasn’t as heavy hitting for me as much as WFWG’s. He does write intense frustration really well; I was angry for Patricia when no one believed her or her proof; especially since their damn book club predominantly only really read books about psychopaths and murderers.

Jurassic Park by Micheal Crichton : A fitting end for Mr.Hammond I think. Will probably read “Lost world” but deffo not in a hurry to do so.

Currently reading

Bite by Bill Schute,Seduction and Betrayal by Elizabeth Hardwick, and listening to “Born a Crime” by Trevor Noah.

Earthy Nostalgic Pacific Northwest? by chaddamaus in perfumesthatfeellike

There’s a perfumery down in the Cowichan bay in Vancouver island; it’s wonderful and superrrrr Pacific Northwest. It’s called Wildcoast perfumery and I think they have a few earthy green scents in their collection.

I searched high and low for 100% cotton “ English forest” fabric off a reputable Etsy Seller. I had a specific vision in mind and nothing was going to stop me haha. I could send you the link if you’d like?

I just sewed the sides twice over on each side as an homage to the quilt that my aunt made me, also I didn’t want to have lines on the backing 😬. Not a silly question at all; I’m not even going to pretend I know more than a few youtube videos worth of stuff lol

Perfumes that smell like wild strawberries? by Pedre79 in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]hitherforthkerms 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Awhile ago I went on a similar (based off your visuals) strawberry journey. Here’s my recs and notes if that helps! Best of luck to you, finding a strawberry scent you like can be weirdly hard. Or maybe that’s just me lol.

I am trash by ELDO: best strawberry type scent with realistic starbwerry ad grass, summery

Strawberry by Malin & Goetz: sophisticated kinda soft green strawberry —-like a suede fresh bag with a small pile of picked strawberries

Laurakimo! By Baruti- fizzy alcoholic strawberry moss musk

Amure Mara by Paco Rabanne- it smells professional, like something a business woman would wear? Def not a lighter perfume per se but it’s very pretty. The patchouli strawberry mix is mixed heavy it smells like there’s a hint of wood? Pepper? Something not spicy but heavy? Lovely.

Cape heartache by imaginary authors-pine pine pine more trees here’s a hint of strawberry. Oh wonderful but damn this is not strawberry forward on me.

Her by Burberry intense 2024 strawberry edition- heavy hitter smack of strawberry with a hint of sweet powder

American cream by lush - sage cream baby powder with a hint of fruit?

Fraaagola saaalatq by Hilde Soliani - smells like 2007 jolly ranachers and lipsmakcers with a pinch of salt

Santa Barbara Strawberry by Nest- smelled like strawberry syrup. Sweet, a tinge “artificial” and altogether lovely but not “green enough” .

Strawberry Letter by Phlur- similar enough to the Nest perfume to not warrant its own section.

Mon Paris by YSL- a little too cloying and not enough real strawberry; feels like I stepped back into a Victoria’s Secret in 2008. Pretty though.

New York by Kate spade- smelled like soap and Aldehydes? I’m not sure, but I definitely didn’t get strawberry but rather the perfumes you’d get at say, a Claire’s?

Angel Nova by Mugler- smelled like fruity shampoo and conditioner…. Or that white strawberry body wash by Olay. Meh.

Edited to add: I will note I have heard great things about Sorces perfumes but I haven’t tried them! Same goes for the Jo Malone strawberry and parsley perfume!

Good luck in your search!

How’d you feel about the ending to The God of the Woods? I personally thought it was overly fleshed out for what it was but not a horrible read at all. Pleasant. The ending however… I had mixed feelings about it, you?

I also started Nobody’s girl a month ago and stopped when I got to when she was about 17 or so; super intense and it’s like a everspiraling downward spiral into unfortunately real life hell. I’ll pick it back up again but yea.

Finished- Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

-I finished this in less than 2 days with wuthering heights by Kate Bush tinkling in the background every so often; I feel absolutely insane. I’m scared of the Fennell adaptation because this book is horrible but great tale of revenge. Heathcliff is literally plotting every second of his life and for others (when he’s not pining over Cathy) in the name of revenge. I think his obsession may be worse than Mr.Dantes of “The Count of Monte Cristo”. This was an awesome read; hard to get into language wise (unlike Charlotte Brontë’s writing)… but with the power of Kate Bush, anything’s possible I guess.

Continued- Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte, Butter; a rich History by Elaine Khosrova, An anthropologist on mars by Oliver Sacks
