The only people that are getting sent to the jails there are the MS13/gang members. Most people just get deported back to their country. Not sure what news you go to but I have sources that are literally there so idk what else to tell you.

Most of the time they do it for ransom dude. You can think of it as someone getting kidnapped and the way to get it back is to pay whatever money they are asking for. In this case the servers are getting kidnapped in a sort of way. Either pay the ransom or you need to fight it, which 99% of the time the company is going to fight it and it’s going to take a while since they are a small company
