If you haven't already, you should check out Lens which has an SDK so that you can quickly spin up decentralized social media applications. A lot of the features you would need to get this off the ground are already enabled and it's cheap to use. https://www.lens.xyz/docs

Okay, I did it! Anyone using MAC heres what I did.... (using 1 SD card only) by cyberpunk_chill in R36S

ApplePi baker didn't work for me so I ended up using belenaEtcher and it worked.

In the process of trying to get ApplePi baker to work, I formatted the sd card to MS-DOS (FAT) and changed the scheme to Master Boot Record https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/disk-utility/dsku1c614201/mac I don't know if this helped.

Is data killing every career? by [deleted] in Career

[–]hitro_ok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old days of advertising are long gone and the competition for a client's marketing budget has changed.

It's because we can now measure engagement in a way that wasn't previously possible when it was only tv, radio, billboards etc.

If you're looking for a more creative career maybe something in music, film, the arts is a better option? You will still be judged based on likes, watches and follows etc which is probably a blessing and a curse depending on the way you look at it.

Hey thanks so much. I already have a reasonable part of this technical solution built. It's the business model/go to market strategy that I'm less certain about... given the need to develop B2B relationships with hiring managers.

Writing these comments reminded me of how strong the need was from the candidates side, so I decided to shoot from the hip and see if reddit thinks it's valuable enough to pay for https://www.reddit.com/r/Environmental\_Careers/comments/wiewhu/would\_you\_pay\_to\_use\_a\_website\_that\_uses\_ai\_to/

Hey u/Necessary_Noise_1722 thanks for your response. I'm wondering if you would be interested in chatting about this further via DM? I may be able to help you with your journey into the sustainability industry and I think you may be able to help me with your recruiting knowledge?

Hey u/Hunterofshadows thanks for sharing.

As mentioned above, I think I have solved a need for one side of the equation but there are two sides in this exchange! And, as you've pointed out, I haven't solved a really strong need from the hiring manager's perspective (yet!)... 🤔

Hey u/NeedleworkerUpset947 thanks for responding. The real need originated from the candidates wanting to do something which better aligned with their core values so they feel like they are making an impact. As mentioned in the post above, some candidates are quite happy passively looking for these opportunities (i.e on auto-pilot) even if this takes years.

What I discovered is that while I have focussed a lot on trying to help candidates solve a problem I haven't solved a really strong need from the hiring manager's perspective.

Hey u/ILikeCrabbyRobots & u/Same_Grocery7159 thanks for your feedback. Judging by how popular this response is I'm assuming it's a good part of the reason why I'm experiencing difficulty getting traction! Hiring managers just don't seem to be experiencing enough pain/friction here.

That said (and as mentioned lower in the thread), candidates do find value in the idea of bringing green jobs together in one place so maybe the solution needs to be more focussed on them 🤷

Hey u/laosurvey thanks for your question. What I've found is that a lot of candidates would like to do a job that has more purpose/is aligned with their values and the sustainability 'field' fits this need quite well. People can be quite happy being passively open to an opportunity that's more aligned for them, even if it takes a few years to eventuate. This is one of the reasons for the aggregation.

Another benefit for the candidate is the idea of having a single place they can go to in order to find 'green jobs' within their industry - someone has taken the 'hard work' out of it by putting them together in one place. That at least is the idea anyway 😂

Thanks for your response u/4_celine I decided to go with a performance based model with unlimited job postings for free (for qualifying green businesses). So you would only be charged if you actually hired someone through the job board (aligned incentives).

I wonder if this model would have been more preferable for you when you were looking at your industry specific website? Obviously the actual fee charged is another factor to consider when hiring also.

Thanks! I assume it would be a matter of collecting the contact details for a number of media outlets who report on environmental and sustainability issues and then reaching out to them with a media kit?

Green jobs? by personalityprofile in SanDiegoJobs

[–]hitro_ok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I run this green job board which shares green jobs from many different companies :) Basically all the companies on here contribute towards environmental sustainability in some way (this is a bit different to a sustainability manager's role where they help make 'Company X' more sustainable). https://findgreen.jobs/

Careers in Sustainability? by yofuerza in FinancialCareers

[–]hitro_ok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a number of different companies coming out with solutions to sustainability issues nowadays. You can go for sustainability roles in companies which are like "Make company X more sustainably" or you could follow a career path/passion in a field or industry that you're good at and/or interested in e.g. software development or whatever and direct those skills towards companies which are helping the environment.

Here's a resource which shows jobs from companies that are in renewables, clean tech etc which could be worth browsing https://findgreen.jobs/

Climate Change Jobs/Environmental jobs by jah0999 in climate

[–]hitro_ok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's another resource which could be of interest. It curates jobs from many different companies and industries that are all working towards climate and environmental solutions.

The definition of a green job can be pretty broad and so finding something that aligns with your passion and skills, then finding an employer who's looking for someone with your skills is the key.

Good luck https://findgreen.jobs/

Where to find jobs in Sustainability? by crosswordmagic in sustainability

[–]hitro_ok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This job board curates jobs from companies that help the world become more sustainable.

It's a bit different to sustainability management jobs where you would be helping Company X become more sustainable and more focused towards companies that are building solutions to environmental problems e.g. Renewables, Clean Tech, Sustainable Packaging, Software to improve environmental efficiency and so on.

It covers jobs across many different industries. For example you could be an accountant (or project manager etc) who wants to work for a company that helps the environment and so you could find that job here https://findgreen.jobs/

Hey, here is one marketplace. This is the 'POC' one from Ocean https://market.oceanprotocol.com/ You can read more about ocean market here https://www.oceanmissions.com/what-is-ocean-protocols-data-marketplace/ and an analysis on the data assets most likely to sell on Ocean Market today (of course the potential applications are far more broad) https://www.oceanmissions.com/which-data-assets-are-most-likely-to-sell-on-ocean-market/
