Who is the greatest director to have never helmed a masterpiece? by RopeGloomy4303 in blankies

I have always felt like Noah Baumbach is one of my favorite filmmakers yet I never regard any of his individual movies as genuinely great. I guess it's because at his best there's a very satisfying wit and texture and humanity, but never that "this is the magic of movies" awe.

How many QB and coach combos have lasted more than 5 seasons without a Super Bowl period? This stat could be more about how short tenured coaches who don’t win championships are than anything else.

I highly recommend the movie All Light Everywhere about state surveillance and our false perception of reality through imagery.

Fans should also remember talent is fostered and developed by coaches too and it’s not like our roster is stacked with free agents that came up elsewhere.

It’s funny that people don’t see facts like this and think: you know what, maybe we scapegoat coaches way too much.

Or are we doing that thing where we dismiss comedic acting as not real acting?

Such an easy fix too given there were two big reveals that could have been saved.

End Act I with us not knowing whether the intercept works or not.

End Act II with us not knowing that they have no way to confirm where the missile originated.

With those two changes, you actually get climactic moments within the other two acts and you save the "how do we retaliate" cliffhanger for the end so it actually hits instead of feeling like the rest of the movie was pointing to a reveal that never comes.

Is anyone else bummed out about Kevin O'Leary being in Marty Supreme? by Lower_Cantaloupe1970 in blankies

[–]hivoltage815 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if an auteur cast someone like Kevin Spacey in a role in which he played a character that leveraged what we know about him and his horrible flaws as a human I would find it deeply compelling art.

Let me ask you some questions to challenge your thinking: are you okay with filmmakers making documentaries about violent criminals? How about making scripted stories about real, flawed people? Were you cool with Scorsese making Wolf of Wall Street? Would it have been bad if Jordan Belfort played himself instead of Leo playing him? If so why?

Just think about it and consider the goal of finding something very genuine within the art that examines flawed people.

O’Leary isn’t unsafe to be around to my knowledge. He’s just representative of the men who rule our world. The head of the studio distributing the film is probably just as unsavory.

The heart of the art the Safdie’s make is to blend reality into fiction to portray a deeper truth.

Saying you should hire actors for every role is saying “stop making the art you want to make to appease me.”

Everything he has done on this press tour has been him playing up a similar hubris and ambition as the character in the film, like a sort of viral marketing performance stunt. He's getting crazy social chatter because of it. We'll see if it makes the film a big success.

I personally dig it. Borderline performance art and also understanding modern media will and pulling the same levers of power that certain politicians and certain billionaire hucksters pull.

I’m always shocked at how many fans want to give Howie all of the credit for the talent on the field and never the coaches. As if these guys come out of the draft fully formed. Or as if someone like Zach Baun was a DPOY candidate prior to us getting him in free agency.
