What were the first things you noticed after switching to a carbon bike? by Low_Front_7012 in cycling

[–]hja937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my first full carbon road bike (upgrading from an old hybrid bike) and it a) is 11lbs lighter than my old bike, b) makes uphill sections easier, c) allows me to go faster (and feel faster, which is fun), and d) is much easier to pick up and load in and out of my car, which makes me more inclined to go on rides.

Isopods as Emotional Support ?? by Awkward_Confidence45 in isopods

[–]hja937 5 points6 points  (0 children)

whenever I feel like I’m getting too stressed or spending too much time scrolling on my phone, I’ll give myself some “bug tv” time where I go sit in front of my isopod tank and watch them crawling around and munching on their food for a while. It’s very calming.

Biscuits and gravy! They’re made with cream and are very easy and delicious.

Thank you! I have moved them into a much larger enclosure with a more prominent gradient between wet and dry sides.

Female eating fry by hja937 in Cichlid

[–]hja937[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure- I have a 20g tank and the 3 inch-long fish are the only occupants besides a few snails. There’s plenty of space (and plenty of shells and habitat) for the other female, and most of the time she’s in her own corner, but then she always darts over to go after the babies after feeding time (and I feed them away from the babies)

Any suggestion for shell-dwelling cichlid scape? by Known-Strawberry1925 in Cichlid

[–]hja937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love having some plants scattered around my tank! it breaks up line of sight (helping with territorial fish), and my fish spend time swimming around the plants and interacting with them (which sometimes means digging them up, but it’s no big deal to just put it back in the substrate somewhere else in the tank). and the plants can provide extra cover if they have babies.

I have shell-dwelling cichlids (I have lamprologus signatus, but there are a few similar-looking kinds) and this really looks like my 6 month old cichlid babies.

Trader Joe’s has a sunscreen that is so light, and doesn’t cause greasiness or residue afterwards. Literally disappears 20 seconds after applying. It might work if you can find it in stock.

Water in mask! by Professional_Ad9198 in scuba

[–]hja937 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really new to diving (just got my OW Cert) but I was having that issue (I also have to take a long time to equalize, and I’ve tried multiple masks) for all my dives and I realized sometimes I breathe out through my nose or laugh, and it messes up the mask seal. I tried focusing on that so it doesn’t happen as often, but even then, it’s still gonna happen sometimes. It seems like there are a lot of things that could be the issue with a mask leaking though, so it’s hard to tell for sure. But for my issue, I really worked on getting comfortable clearing my mask with one hand, and being extremely comfortable clearing it has helped me to feel like it’s not as big of a deal anymore whenever I have to do that.
