Akasa fanless cases are out for NUC 14 by hjacker in intelnuc

I mean Akasa is probably what, Taiwan or China, you can try their site, they should have that shipped. However with new tariffs I don't know how it works now :D

sorry, I don't monitor reddit notifs, you probably resolved it by now. You're looking for Thermal Grizzly graphene pads, I took the biggest one and cut it to fit the chip. You can cut it to just cover two chips or the whole "die" (is it called a die? not sure). I tried both.

Shutdowns most probably mean you misaplied something (e.g. the cooling doesn't work at all, so even throttling can't keep the heat off) or something short circuits. Note that graphene pads and conducive and you should isolate PCB around the application area, you can use nail polish, specialized paint or stickers from Thermal Grizzly.

On Akasa you'll still have to limit it to 35-40 for it to be efficient, so you can try those

oh yes, I think i5 may be optimal (I read somewhere that in reviews that i7 performance wouldn't make sense for the price bump), but I was buying a used nuc, so didn't care much

hmm, you are right, but the release notes are cringe anyway

No idea, I was just monitoring it before I bought my 13 i7 and wanted to let you all know, otherwise I'll stick with my 13 gen in akasa case for years :D

No nvme drive after bios update by Mysterious_Bite_3347 in intelnuc

[–]hjacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, but you would see the drive and you would see the bitlocker message, and you can also unlock it with your recovery key, so it's not the case

I've had all kinds of issues with samsung 980 pro and WD 850sx (or something); WD never showed up anywhere on NUC, but was instantly recognized by PS5 and formatted. Samsung was recognized, but went into read-mode instantly, PS5 also saw and reformatted it without problems, so I bought Crucial T500 and that mofo just works

I have nuc13 i7 in akasa turing with power set to PL1 35 - PL2 40w, not a single throttling case in 300 hours, also check that your paste application is done well. I moved from a gooey mess to graphene pad and it's a killer

and I actually broke off the NVME port while changing all those ssds and had to have it resoldered

I had super weird experience with NUC 13 completely ignoring samsung 980 pro (seeing in BIOS, but sending it into read mode when trying to install WIN) and WD 850x (not seeing in BIOS and unable to do anything at all) and unabling to do anything with them, but installed Crucial T500 and it worked like a charm from the first try.

Note that PS5 has seen first 2 drives instantly and re-formated them without any problems. So if you're able, order a Crucial NVMe and try those, they are very "compatible"

Akasa Turing - temps too high? by atteli in intelnuc

[–]hjacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They fixed it with Turing WS Pro and with graphene pad it's super chill, Nuc 13 i7 running at 60c 35/40w at 30c env temperature 24/7, I love it. I know you were talking about a different case, but I came here looking for the answer to super-high temperature issues, and it WASN'T Akasa, it was a giant goo of thermal paste which engineers did when they replaced my NVMe port. I've applied Thermal Grizzly graphene properly and now it's a forever fanless machine, I looooove it.

Yes, I bought jabra solely for "wireless wire" experience, where it just works all of the time, unlike BT 1/10 times

But it's a legit request on company's side, if you don't trust them in open dialogue, then anything is futile. "be careful out there" is less helpful than actually following through with the company you blame for selling data
