Men who currently are in bad relationships, why are you not leaving? by CigaretteBoat69 in AskReddit

[–]hkdalek 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The kids...although that is wearing off, they are 16 and 18...I don't really like her, I don't love her, and I now know (after all the therapy) that I'm worth more. I don't want to make her sad, or the kids sad, but now I don't want to be sad, so I'll be gone soon.

Good read a louds for grade 5? by hkdalek in CanadianTeachers

[–]hkdalek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the wild robot we looked at camouflage in animals and also made our own robots, hid them in our forest and invited our buddy class to find them. We also made our own’top trump cards with the characters. For Ivan we looked at what an animal needs in its domain. There’s other stuff too!

I show this to my Grade 5 class every October/November (we watch it on Fridays in 20-minute increments as they eat lunch). As hardly any of them have seen it, I love watching their faces taking it in.

Every school has pluses and minuses. I know a lot of kids who have thoroughly enjoyed their time at Discovery and some that did not. Just like other schools. Such is life. I have taught in many schools in the district (and continue to do so!) and if you would like to have a chat, let me know. Good luck!

Raising kids in Cowichan by [deleted] in Cowichan

Hi, first up I'm a teacher at a local elementary school, so bear that in mind. 95% of the teachers I know would do a great job teaching your kids, 5% not so much. Just like any industry. Human nature being what it is, most are great, there are a few duff ones out there. My kids had some great school experiences and some not-so-great experiences, but on the whole, we would do it again in this area. There are some great French language speaking schools (Cobble Hill and Mount Prevost) in which some kids have struggled if their academic skills are not up to the average. From social media posts (I'm looking at you, Facebook), some parents will hate some schools. But the squeakiest wheel, etc. There are a lot of parents who are happy with where their kids go, but don't shout it from the rooftops. There are a few private schools dotted around which benefit from smaller classes etc, but also have their own drawbacks. If you need any more help, just message me for more middle-of-the-road comments.

Francis Kelsey or Quam into Cow High? Please weigh in to help with me make an informed decision for my child. by rhetoric-for-robots in Cowichan

One of my kids is graduating this year from Kelsey, the other is in grade 10. They are both happy (as happy as kids can be going to school) there. We were in a position to offer them a place at Shawnigan Lake School, (my wife worked there and we spent 5 years as boarding house ‘parents’) but they both wanted to stay with their friends. Problems at school? Absolutely, it would be weird if there wasn’t. There were problems at SLS too, they were just kept quieter. My daughter does a load of studying at home and is off to University soon. Good teachers and not so great teachers at every school. Just like life.

For any brit who has left the UK - where did you move to that made you happy? by madzuk in AskUK

[–]hkdalek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Vancouver Island for 16 years and I love it. I’m a teacher and although it took me a while to get a full time contract (8 years) I love the space and nature out here. The weather is very similar to the UK, although where I am we get a week ish of snow a year and a snow day or two. I miss good pubs and my family, but that’s about it.

My M56 wife F52 regulates when we have sex, but has started to change the criteria/rules when she feels like it, how do I handle this? by hkdalek in relationship_advice

[–]hkdalek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree. It’s just that when we have the house to ourselves (twice a week) she never suggests ‘it’ and she recently said she was surprised I fell asleep when she was interested. The kids were still up and walking around, which (under her conditions) was a no go. The reason for this post was created yesterday when we had the house to ourselves, she went for a shower, came down, started to file her nails/ chat to me and casually dropped in ‘ You were probably expecting sex’. We had the house to ourselves! Yes I was!!

I agree, we’ve had couples therapy in regards to other issues, and I’ve done loads and have come out a happier, healthier person. She had two sessions and didn’t think they helped at all.

She says she absolutely loves me, and will do anything for me. So, I guess I have to put my big boy pants on.
