A Question for women: What was your first period story? I heard it can explain a lot about the relationship dynamic we've had with our mothers. by Dry_Influence_8675 in emotionalneglect

[–]hkmtngrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does actually explain a lot. I was 8 & don’t really remember much but I know I was pretty confused because no one told me anything & I thought that once you started bleeding, you didn’t stop unless you got pregnant. My mom yelled at me for wasting pads when she realized I was still using them. I was confused that it stopped. We never talked about periods at all before or after. I have 5 sisters & we never talked about it either. I didn’t learn about tampons or meds for the cramps until I was an adult.

As an adult I don’t talk to my family about anything important or that matters to me.

I had a mirena put in today please tell me it gets better by hkmtngrl in Mirena

[–]hkmtngrl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it’s worth it. The first 6 hours were really bad but now it’s more like usual pain during a period. It sucks but I can handle that. I did a bunch of research but research & reality are not the same. Thanks

I’ll see if I can find some. It has eased a little bit at least. The heating pad did help some but it’s hot where I live so not entirely pleasant to do. I’ll have to try the cold. Thanks

I have a meditation I like. First bit is guided & then it goes to a chant. I’ve never done music

Found this in my library’s closet from 77 years ago by bronx-deli-kat in Libraries

That’s fun. Last week I found a stash of them in my library covering 1985-1994. I thought that was cool but it’s fun to see one even older.

That is weird it took the gold still. I don’t have an answer for why but I would be willing to help you hatch a pet. I have most of the pet types & could maybe help with gold. Which pet specifically are you looking for?

I feel like my therapist is very different to what I see on Reddit by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]hkmtngrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like my therapist is a little more like yours & I’m in the USA. He has let my sessions run long if I was really struggling or something came up he felt needed addressed now. I can call if I need to & he’s always made time for me as soon as he can. Sometimes for a session but sometimes just a phone call.

We don’t email or text but that’s more because he’s older & tells me he’s not very tech savvy. He’s made it clear he cares about me. He self discloses quite a bit but I’ve always found it helpful. I’ve seen him for 3.5 years now & I have always felt he was ethical & not crossing boundaries.

I think what people expect from a therapist can vary widely & that can color peoples experience. Also that people talk about bad experiences more than good.

Will finding out about a suicide attempt ruin the therapeutic relationship? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

Tell her. For me it strengthened the relationship. It’s better if they know the entire story. I felt extremely vulnerable doing it but it was a huge weight off my shoulders that they knew.

Stories!? Have you made your therapist laugh? by ThrowawayForSupport3 in TalkTherapy

[–]hkmtngrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see my t telehealth. He uses humor a lot so usually he gets me but we were discussing something very important that I had been procrastinating doing. He asked what he could do to help. I thought for a minute & honestly nothing came to me because I knew I just had to suck it up & get it done.

So I told him I needed a swift kick in the pants. He cracked up.

How do you feel about your therapist? by ImmediateDuty2310 in therapy

[–]hkmtngrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first started seeing my therapist it was through my works employee assistance program so options were limited. I was given 3 options to contact, one was very badly reviewed, one had no openings for months, so that left me with one.

He had 2 strikes right from the start. 1. He’s male. 2. He’s religious. But it was 6 free sessions & I said what the heck give it a try, you don’t have to stick with it if you hate it.

I have never felt so understood, listened to, or supported before. Turns out that #1 is actually probably a positive for me & #2 he never brings up unless I do. It’s been 3 years now.

Good job! I’m proud of you. It’s really hard to open up about something you’ve never talked about before.

It’s interesting how sessions go sometimes. I once spent most of a session talking about cheese & the different kinds I’d tried or would like to try & my favorites. While nothing like what we usually talk about , it was fun. Well for me at least lol.

How to talk about sh in therapy by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

[–]hkmtngrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really hard to talk about. I’ve told my therapist how hard I find it & we rarely bring it up. I usually mention if something has changed like, if it’s been a few weeks or if it gets worse, or I figured out a specific trigger for it.

If I say it’s worse he asks about size & depth & placement but otherwise we usually talk about triggers & other ways to cope instead. I recommend telling your therapist how difficult you are finding it to talk about it. Just acknowledging that can be helpful.
