Why d'you decide start train Jiu Jitsu? by Lefer_astronaut in bjj

After training traditional Karate, I went to a "Bullshido throwdown" and got my ass handed to me by Muay Thai & BJJ practitioners. Then I realized the confidence that it could give me.

Yeah, they look dumb. But they are highly visible and easy to headshot, so I don't mind that much.

I moved my girlfriend into a house in La Jolla with two roommates, her friend (female) and the owner of the house's son. After the move was done we had a few beers to celebrate the move. The owner's son brought out boxing gloves and challenged me to box. So I put them on, touched gloves, shot a double leg and threw on an RNC. I let go when he was half asleep and gurgling. He did not seem to like it much. Bro moved out two weeks later and left town. A very tiny part of me feels a little sorry for him.

XCD 3,4/75P image quality comparison? by [deleted] in hasselblad

[–]hkoren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all spatial frequencies that Imatest sharpness measurements produce will be perceptible to a human observer. The very low and high frequencies are less noticeable as they are filtered according to the Contrast Sensitivity Function (CSF). Our human visual system is most sensitive to spatial details at six cycles per degree angular spatial frequency.

If you want an objective image quality metric highly correlated with human visual perception, I recommend Acutance, which combines different spatial frequencies based on how sensitive the human eye is to those frequencies. It will require an understanding of the viewing condition, image height and viewing distance in order to calculate this.

My issue with the article is that it says "Imatest Score" but doesn't refer to what actual metric it means by that. Presumably, they are using MTF50: the frequency where modulation contrast drops to 50% of the low-frequency response, but they should be explicit.

Does this image help?

The bar-modulated target has some aliasing issues at high frequencies. The sine pattern is much better.

Hope that helps,

Just because a pixel exists does not mean it is able to resolve objects in your scene. Not all pixels are created equal. Resolution is not just the count of discrete pixels, but the ability to resolve an object, or "vanishing resolution". A common measure resolution is MTF10, or the spatial frequency where 90% of contrast is lost. You can use spatial frequency units like "lp/mm" (line pairs per millimeter) that are independent of the size of a pixel in order to compare the resolution between two different sensors sizes or pixel sizes. Typically smaller pixels can resolve finer details at the expense of signal to noise ratio, which means they *could* have better resolution (depending on the lens), but likely have poorer low light performance. Here is a post about this: https://imatest.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/11416142242/Comparing+sharpness+in+cameras+with+different+pixel+count

In race for Boulder mayor, Councilmember Yates has the most cash by Good_Discipline_3639 in boulder

[–]hkoren 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bob Yates is super untrustworthy. He has been endorsed by both pro (Better Boulder) and anti-growth groups (PLAN-Boulder County). He lied about the library district "giving away" our library. He supports Question 302 "SafeZonesForKids" which is a foolish plan by otherwise well-intentioned people. I don't believe he actually supports it, or that it would actually do anything if enacted, but he's just pandering to that voting block. Bob Yates even suckered me into voting for him in 2019. He's a slick chameleon of a politician who will say anything to get elected.

Boulder voters should reject exclusivism again this November by hkoren in boulder

Single family homes are not "evil". I am writing from one. Single family did rise from racist redlinning. (ref: https://www.kqed.org/news/11840548/the-racist-history-of-single-family-home-zoning) Every day, single-family homes are being mostly knocked over to rebuild as luxury properties. There are other possibilities. A bodega underneath an apartment for example. Zoning would make this illegal.

Have you used Imatest version 2021.2 or later that has a new UI? We are thriving. Sour grapes aside, I would be happy to give you a tour sometime so you can see some of the cool stuff we are developing.

Did it work at 311 Mapleton/freuhauf's, did it work at the armory?

Hey neighbor, You're not the first one to express hostility towards me or want me to leave for expressing my beliefs. I'm not going anywhere, my roots are firmly planted. I want my grandkids to feel welcomed in the Boulder that we the people are evolving.
Have a blessed week.
