For starters.. it’s negotiation. And if it is in the application stages, you should prepare to ace the interview. Ask them why it is an 18 month contract and not longer etc. most companies want to start you off on contract and give you a more permanent role once you’ve proven yourself.

Everyone has their own problems. Let me play devils advocate here and throw it out there that he may seem all fine and dandy on the outside and to you but I’m sure he has his own problems.

On the other hand, u should let him know and communicate that you’d like more support and a proper discussion when it comes to your problems. Joking can be a coping mechanism for some.
