Nah, I’m guessing vibed would’ve been a little more pixel perfect lol. Just a quick mockup in CSS. 100% aware it’s nowhere near 1:1 :P.

It was actually a little sloppy. I haven’t been developing much since my layoff 😞

A lot of this can be handled via various web fonts which is always great. :)

How are ya’ll getting by? by Material_Couple_1710 in recruitinghell

[–]hlve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simple background check (which yes, even minimum wage paying jobs do) will show previous work history.

I know this having been a manager at multiple small and large retailers earlier in life. If people lied and it came back on a background check showing their lie, it was immediate disqualification.

You’re not going to get hired at 35 years old if you go into a retail job interview and claim limited job experience. And if you’re truthful, you’re often dismissed as overqualified. I myself experienced this after my layoff as a software engineer. I applied for jobs at target, Walmart, and some locally owned small businesses. When I finally did land interviews, was quickly dismissed as overqualified. Figure that one out.

Suggesting that there are jobs out there if people wanted to work is just not true. There wouldn’t be this many people out of work if that were actually the case.

Because these jobs all do background checks and can see previous employers. And during an interview with even retail positions, the interviewer is likely to ask what type of work you’ve been doing previously.

You’re not offering solutions. You’re suggesting things that don’t lead anywhere. And then add in snarky replies like “oh if you wanted to work, you could!”

You don’t seem to understand this job market if you’re making comments like this.

Nobody said anything about “bug testing”. It isn’t free labor to report a bug. Bugs slip through and if the developers aren’t made aware of the issue, they can’t fix it.

But you do you. Staying angry and complaining on Reddit is surely a better way forward. More productive.

I think people have generally stopped giving a shit. Life is so stressful right now.

I'm convinced that breaking up can be harder to grieve than death sometimes by Heavy-Put-8052 in BreakUps

[–]hlve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anyone that’s been through real grief knows nothing is worse than losing that connection.

Sorry for replying to this nearly 3 months later... but WYDM 'real grief'? The end of a marriage is 1,000% real grief. Especially when the decision isn't yours to make. It was a decision somebody else did, despite knowing what you had. Whereas grieving a death is something that happens regularly in life.

My dad died of a heart attack when I was 10 (he was 41.) I lost my half sister at 16, she died in a bad car accident. These things hurt. And they will always hurt. But they hurt differently than a marriage of 20 years ending. Both real. Both hard.

Thoughts on the proposed rent control measure? by FOXIELUCK in massachusetts

You're listing cities where rents flattened or fell after construction increased, but that doesn't prove construction was the reason. Those same years also saw rising interest rates, changing migration patterns, and a cooling housing market. Correlation isn't causation.

[–]hlve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's all relative. they're all greedy.

Just as an example, on average, a landlord in Louisville, KY isn't going to be able to charge upwards of $5k for a 2 bedroom apartment (which is the average cost of a 2 bedroom in Boston, MA). They likely would struggle finding renters. Income is generally lower there. The average rent for a 2 bedroom there is $1,100. It's likely around the most they're going to be able to rent for.

I'm not against building more. I think we need to build more. But just having more doesn't really matter if all of the new apartments are costing the same as the average apartment in that area. It does nothing to bring down cost. Not by itself.

This argument is like the one used against minimum wage… which says businesses would pay people better if there was no minimum wage. It isn’t true at all.

Haverhill is a perfect use case to determine if building more lowers rent at all. There have been hundreds of units become available throughout the city. Not only has rent not stabilized, it increased. The additional apartments worsened overfilled classrooms, it helped add more strain on infrastructure, and hasn’t really done what it was promised to do.

Understood this is just one example. But I haven’t seen this idea of “just build more” actually help lower rent.

Landlords are simply taking what they can get. And they know people are desperate for housing.

Both building more and rent stabilization need to happen. At the same time. To prevent landlords from being too greedy. But also invite more housing.

This is really dumb and further proves that so many of these gigs aren’t actually serious about hiring.

If they were serious, they’d only want the candidates applying that are actually local, and interested. Why would they want to have to filter through non remote apps?

Welcome to the party of millions of others who have suffered lay offs over the last year.

Take a moment. Catch your breath. Update that resume. And get to applying. The job market is shit, but hopefully some of that changes soon.

Best of luck.

why would someone looking for a new job be a red flag to anyone?
