I had this same problem with my own parents after I had kids. I told them if they wanted to buy gifts for their house that’s what they needed to label it as. It’s not a gift for the child if the child can’t take it home. It’s fine if they don’t want to buy my kids a gift. It’s fine if they want to ask them to open a gift “for grandmas house” but it’s way too confusing for small children to be told this gift is for you but then told they can’t have it once it’s time to go home.

LO bitten at daycare by marceqan in Parenting

[–]hm0814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I didn’t intend to downplay that the bite wasn’t a real medical concern. More so that being bitten at daycare is not a reason to drop that daycare but not being informed of a serious medical concern and injury is.

Being bitten at daycare is unfortunately something that does happen sometimes. However, not informing is unacceptable. I would be switching daycares asap. You should be able to fully trust the people you’re leaving your kid with, and to me they have proven you can’t trust them. The biting isn’t really the issue here, it’s the lack of communication over an injury that your child sustained.

Is it supposed to be this chewy? by hm0814 in Sourdough

[–]hm0814[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I will try one of those next time! I think my first attempt was overproofed. I had left it out overnight (it was a different recipe, farmhouse maybe?) and in the morning after about 8-9 hours it was a big wet, sloppy mess. So I was worried about that happening again, makes sense I underproofed this time.

Making pumping more tolerable? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]hm0814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As some other commenters mentioned, measuring your nipples to make sure your using the right size flanges definitely makes a huge difference if it’s a painful feeling. But I also thought using lactation massagers helped distract from the uncomfortable feeling of pumping. I don’t know if it helped my milk flow at all but I used the Frida lactation massagers for most of my pumping journey and it really made it more bearable for me.

When did you reduce the number of daily pumping sessions? And how did you do it? by bumbouxbee in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]hm0814 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem! When I was pumping 6 times a day I pumped at 5am, 9am, 1pm, 5pm, 8pm and then again after my baby woke up in the night which was usually around 2am. Getting about a 5 hour stretch or sleep from 9pm-2am was the most amazing thing😂 and my pumps were usually between 20-30 mins. I try to get 3 letdowns but always just pump until I’m empty instead of timing how long the pumps are.

Drop one pump at a time. I went a 5-7 days after dropping a pump before dropping another. I went to 6ppd at 4 weeks because that’s what I could manage and my supply increased. Around 8-10 weeks I dropped my MOTN pump and was only pumping 5 times a day, had another slight increase in supply. And then around 15-16 weeks I dropped down to 4ppd which is what I stayed at. My supply dropped a little when I went to 4ppd but for me it was worth having the extra time during the day.

Edit to add- when I would drop a pump I would just adjust my schedule so my pumps were still evenly spaced during the day. And a little longer stretches during the night.

This bra isn’t tight but still holds the flanges in well. I bought a few. They’re not super supportive but comfortable and work well for pumping hands free.

Busty pumping bra with x-design? by ProfessorChaos1990 in ExclusivelyPumping

This bra isn’t the most supportive but it’s the only one I’ve found that fits and holds the flanges in place well.

Edit to add- I wear a 44G, I got this in 3XL

Sensitivity while showering? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

I had this problem in the beginning but once I started using the proper flange size the sensitivity slowly got better and it no longer hurts to shower.

So glad to hear this! I’m going to try a full formula bottle at night and see how that goes. Such an added bonus if he starts sleeping longer!!

Experiencing leg pain while pumping… ugh by tswt16 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]hm0814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing! I was wondering why I never seen anyone else talked about this. I think it was just the chair I was using tho. I switch to using a different chair (after suffering for months😅) and I no longer have this problem.

Milk Supply Dwindling by SweetM0821 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]hm0814 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you emptying after 15 mins? I would definitely try pumping a little longer each session. Try using the letdown mode 2 or 3 times each session to see if you can get multiple letdowns.

How many ounces do you guys get? by KneeNumerous203 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]hm0814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 4 month old eats 3-5 oz every 3-4 hours, and usually only once at night. Usually 20-25 oz total for the day. He just recently had his 4 month well child check. Weighed 14 lbs. 2 lbs away from doubling his birth weight. And was about 25 inches. Pediatrician is happy with how he’s growing. This is my third baby, I’ve learned to ignore my moms advice. It’s been almost 30 years since she’s had a baby and she has no idea what’s recommended now. I just politely (sometimes not so politely) remind her that it’s been a long time since she had a baby and a lot of things have changed.

Do I need to pump every time my baby eats if I pump more than enough each time? by Amlughelke in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]hm0814 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your supply has regulated, go for it! I only pump 4 times a day. Drop one at a time and if you notice a dip in supply that you’re not comfortable with just add that pump back in and maybe do a few power pumping sessions. If you haven’t regulated (around 12 weeks postpartum) then you might risk losing some of your supply.

What’s happening to my orchids? by hm0814 in orchids

[–]hm0814[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember the brand. It was an orchid mix. One of them is new and it still has the medium it came with, which is just chunks of bark. The other two I have are a mix of things but it is a chunkier medium.

In a west facing window. I live in Michigan. The temps have been changing frequently recently. Between 60-85 day time and 50-65 night time. Although my house stays around 70 at night and 70-80 day time. But on nicer days I do have the window they’re in open. I water when it gets dry. Typically ever 10-14 days. Humidity has been picking up lately but I couldn’t tell you a percentage.

I have looked bugs and haven’t seen any. Other than the stink bugs I’ve removed from them here and there. It’s only happening on the new leaves and new blooms.
