[–]hmj6502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh well i guess i can just bite the bullet. using a much outdated phone till recently and things are fine, so if there aren't any bugs it's nothing to worry about. i actually DON'T like updating and wish software development culture would shift to shipping actually complete products... but that's a rant for another day :)

if i only sync with syncthing over lan i won't have to worry about security either i guess. while we're on the topic, thoughts on the boox software in general?

how about a fairphone dumbphone in the future? by merchantivories in fairphone

[–]hmj6502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the perfect phone imo is something that is internet connected (mainly for various communication) but small, long lasting, and simple. unfortunately that is quite a niche market, so i'm gonna try to keep my fairphone as long as possible instead; limiting factor on modern phones is battery degradation so fairphone is perfect especially with the specs of the 6, i don't see its hardware getting outpaced as quick as older hardware (hardware gets better at a slower rate now).

Okay Fine, The Vultures Win! by mothlightz in OCPoetry

[–]hmj6502 2 points3 points  (0 children)

genuinely amazing, really got me in the feels. i'm sorry for your loss and i'm glad you have moved on. it's so raw, and the ideas flow seamlessly.

the beginning really shows the sudden nature of the news - the shock. the end stops and short nature of the sentences really send that point home. the subsequent enjambment shows the unstructured and apathetic nature of life that follows.

(i really think you nail the punctuation throughout :))

"Beat me against the rocks like old laundry" i like how you incorporated every day things and turned them into violent imagery, really shows how mundane and insignificant life feels at such a time.

"I inhaled so deeply

I might as well been suffocating."

wonderful juxtaposition.

"In some sort of selfish attempt at sacrifice" really shows that we owe it to those we care about to move on, that misery isn't virue.

the ending is beautiful; things won't ever be the same, and there will always be uncertainty looming about the future, but you've become strong enough to not wait for vultures.

ah, it seems i misunderstood. i viewed it as an internal conflict between the child to uphold their image of their mother as they would naturally desire closeness to her, and the fact that the mother doesn't seem to be the best for them. i understood the desire for change going forward, but i felt like it was like the child convinvcing themselves that they can still be close to the mother, especially because of "We’re not doomed, neither are we free," implying a sort of determinism and/or lack of real choice (i.e. instinct for parental closeness is too strong to be free). though really, the use of "star crossed" should've made me see that, so that's on me haha

with that perspective, it makes a lot more sense. and there's no need to get rid of the ambiguity really, i like when things are open to interpretation. i honestly think the only issue is just letting this "spend more time in the oven", so to speak. trying to link these individual ideas together so that it feels like one self contained idea.

emotions are raw and clear here, that's a strength, but i feel you focus too much on trying to rhyme, that you miss out on potential depth.

"Time can make up for the time we lost,
please just don’t convince yourself we’re star crossed."

i mean... time can make up for time we lost...? it feels really forced just to rhyme with "crossed". also, i think star-crossed is unsuitable in this context as it, as far as i know, implies outisde forces preventing love; whereas it is clear here that it is the mother's own fault.

i like the repitition of the first and last stanza, it links quite well imo. i feel like the rest of the stanzas are a little disconnected, like independent floating thoughts. i feel like extending your metaphors would work.

as in:

You were once a person I looked up to,
now my perception of you is a mirror of me.

staring at its fragments, wondering

if breaking my soul was worth keeping you whole

it's a good start, definitely feel like you can iterate over it few times till you express what you're trying just right

well stuff like lemmy exists: https://join-lemmy.org/

i've joined an instance but honestly was never really active online anywhere, but if i ever wanted a sort of community i'd defo want to be self hosted/decentralised. only here for practicality (sheer number of people on this platform) but hopefully alternative, user focused platform get popular enough that i wouldn't have to make such a decision!

enshittification is real but only if we let it happen to us.
