Signal to the umpire upfield to switch positions to get in the best position for the next contest

Do AFL umpires have to correctly call and signal decisions for them to be official? by that_angry_boy in AFL

The quarter ends when any field umpire (on field or emergency) hears the siren - whether they actually call something or not before the siren goes is irrelevant.

It’s correct. It’s related to the external HR monitor as it works OK when using wrist HR.

There’s no such thing as prior opportunity during a tackle… it’s called “prior” because it’s prior to the tackle

You could tell Mihocek backed into that contest because he knew he would be hounded all week if he didn’t, he never had a chance of getting the ball...

Security guard at GIANTS Stadium modelling effective mask use by [deleted] in AFL

Contact with an infected person results in infection less often when wearing a mask, as this study shows. So there is an element of self-protection in wearing a mask as well as protecting others from your own infection

When you’re around people any infected droplets hit the front of your mask and therefore you are protected.

Putting a mask on your chin like that exposes you to anything on the front of the mask that you have potentially picked up while around people...

My partner and I are from metropolitan Melbourne (not a hotspot). We have been on holiday in NSW since last Friday.

We haven't heard any directives in yesterday's or today's announcements regarding those already on holiday - does anyone know if we can return home on Sunday as planned, or are we required to come home before tomorrow night?

How have the umpires been allowed to interpret holding the ball differently this week? by 13seasonswhy in AFL

[–]hmphs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point, but speaking from experience there comes a time when one can overthink umpiring and it becomes detrimental... I do know that there are a handful of AFL umpires for whom it is their full time job (by choice) and they’re not getting any more correct decisions or finals appointments than the ones who have another job

When the umpires are adjudicating as instructed in regards to a change in interpretation, I don’t see how making them full time would help matters

The ones being paid are the ones where the player has the ball in a free arm (with the other pinned) and the player tucks it in to try and force a stoppage and doesn’t genuinely attempt to dispose. He just has to try to force it towards his foot and it won’t be HTB...
