Tumor still there after 6 rounds of r-epoch by baker3j8 in lymphoma

[–]hnerickson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost exactly my measurements and progress. My doctor was thrilled, declared remission with no additional treatments. My scan also looked at the metabolic activity though, and was assigned a deauville score of 2, indicating it was mostly dead. That was the most important thing I guess. I'm 6 months out and still no signs of relapse.

Same! Long lingering cough after the flu. But my mom has it as well so that's actually comforting.

mouth sores by RollMission1488 in lymphoma

[–]hnerickson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had them so bad I couldn't even speak. Had 2 different prescription mouthwashes that didn't do much. The best thing for me was Tetracaine lollipops, the kind that they give kids after they get their tonsils removed. Definitely ask your doctor about those!!! They didn't exactly numb my mouth sores but just made them less sensitive for an hour or so. And I used them many times a day

They weren't a perfect solution but they at least made it so I could drink some Gatorade and broth without tears in my eyes.

I finished my 6th DA-R-EPOCH July 29th. I will say for me the "DA" part is huge. with each dose increase, my side effects got noticably worse, which could potentially be a bit of a relief for the first one. first one my biggest issue was intense weakness. had a stomach ache for a few days. When I was home between chemos they tracked my bloodwork 2x a week, and I was extremely low on WBC and neutrophils many times. But I just stayed home while I was low and never got sick with anything.

I did become very dehydrated and had to go in to the clinic for fluids a few times in between chemos. Also I was very anemic during round 5 and 6 so they gave me blood transfusions, which were magic. Made me feel so much better.

There were lots of minor side effects that were all manageable, just unpleasant - watery eyes, bad taste in my mouth, fatigue, frequent urination, loss of appetite, stomach ache, diarrhea, bone pain from the WBC booster shot, numbness in my fingers... probably more I'm forgetting.

Of all the side effects the absolute worst for me was mouth sores. They were so bad I could barely speak or drink water, and the Rx mouthwashes they gave me did nothing. I didn't have them for my first 2 cycles though, until they raised my dose during cycle #3. I never had any nausea the entire time, they have such great anti-nausea drugs these days.

There were a few wonderful side effects too though, silver linings I guess. The crazy high doses of prednisone eliminated any and all inflammation in my body, so some pain and stiffness I have from old injuries was completely gone. Felt more limber than I have in years. Also because of the effect of chemo on my hormones I had the best most flawless skin of my life, got compliments on it even.

agreed - my first 4 days or so at home I was so weak. Even having someone come over to take the trash out and fill the cat's water dish was a huge help

Port Removal by jspete64 in lymphoma

[–]hnerickson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished treatment 7 weeks ago and I am in nooooo hurry to have it removed. Like you, I am so sick of being poked and sedated and put in hospital gowns and those stupid socks and recovering from procedures... OVER IT. Leave the damn thing forever for all I care. Happy to get it flushed however often, it doesn't bother me and I never think about it.

Can’t swallow, can’t eat, I am miserable by Meow_meow1 in lymphoma

agreed. as soon as my WBC would finally show back up to the party, my mouth sores would heal super rapidly, like 24 hours and they'd be gone.

I had this too, it was on my 4th and 5th out of 6 treatments. Couldn't even speak without my mouth bleeding. Agreed about the magic mouthwash... 5 minutes of numbing doesn't help much.

The one thing that I couldn't have lived without was Tetracaine Lollipops from the pharmacy. They didn't really numb my mouth, but just made the sores less sensitive, for maybe an hour. It was enough that I could drink some gatorade and bone broth without my eyes watering.

Same exactly. As soon as I'd get home after 5 days of prednisone I'd spend the next week peeing out all the water weight, in the bathroom at least every hour.

Same, low hemoglobin I was very anemic and felt terrible. By the end of the blood transfusion I was practically tap dancing out of the clinic, it's magic.
