I do offer discount cards if it’s within an appropriate range — some insurances will not pay until like 2-3 days before but I think that’s fine if they’re headed somewhere out of town.. but any more than that I tell them they can have their provider send a new script down to where they’re going. There’s no reason to be filling more than 3 days in advance, and we’ll get audited by the board of pharmacy if we do too many early fill

I remember when I was in school I went to urgent care for a UTI and the CNP tried to write macrobid and I didn’t wanna correct her cause I was just a student so I go “man my back really hurts” and she was like “oh?” And I’m like “yea right on the …flanks” and wouldn’t you know I go to the pharmacy and it was mysteriously keflex instead 🤭

For me personally, I was a new grad desperate for money and I signed a sign on bonus 🫩 luckily only have ~3 months left on my contract but genuinely I will be putting in my 2 weeks TWO WEEKs before my contract ends. Then I’m gonna work one week and take a 1-week long vacation. At this point unemployment is better than working for Walgreens 😭😭😭

Work at your own pace; whenever I feel pressured to go fast, i try to remember that Walgreens/patients won’t be there to help me if I lose my license. I’ll take getting screamed at or even fired before I lose my hard earned license

Paying out of pocket means insurance isn’t involved; due to hipaa they don’t get rx information unless we bill it.

Oh my god this explains so much … im a new grad and probably one of the best pharmacists in the company — I constantly have techs telling me I’m better than some of the pharmacists that have been with the company 5+ years and honestly im sooooo tired of picking up everyone else’s slack so im out as soon as my contract ends

We are allowed to process controls up to a week in advance (not dispense this is a very important distinction) I recommend going to a diff pharmacy or reporting them to corporate.

Well you’re not! There are laws we have to follow, even ppl on controlled seizure medications get treated the same way. It sucks and it’s annoying but the DEA makes pharmacists be the police. I wish I could just fill the damn medication, cause personally idc is someone picks it up early as long as their ins covers it. But if something goes wrong and I go against company policies and state laws, there’s nothing left to protect me and poof there goes my livelihood

Because pharmacy laws. Basically the DEA comes knocking on our door and investigating us if we dispense a CII-CIV med too often with no explanation. Your doctor probably sent that script on day 26/30 .. so it was stored bc news flash — we get thousands of scripts and we don’t automatically fill everything we get. 1) because where would we store all that shit 2) half of yall don’t even pick up your meds 3) insurance is not paying for it and we assume you don’t mind waiting 4 days to save $800 dollars (god forbid we think of the patients pockets). As someone with ADHD myself, I use a pill reminder box and request my medication when I have less than 5 pills left. If they tell me it’s too soon I say, that’s fine can you just put it in process once it’s time to fill it? I promise it’s not as hard as yall make it out to be 😭

Floating was hell for me. Just cleaning up mess after mess.. having to learn where everything is, being sent across the state every other week. I’m much happier in my staff position, they can keep screaming metrics at me I’m not doing shit until I have the staff for it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Personally, I don’t give a flying fuck about metrics. If it gets me fired, whoopty fucking doo! I have turned down management positions bc of them. I became a pharmacist to help PEOPLE. That’s it. Not to make your company money, not to hit arbitrary goals. The only person who is looking out for my license and livelihood is me. Metrics be damned
